I remember watching a press conference live on TV shortly after Team USA had won the Olympic gold in 1984, and a journalist asked Knight something along the lines of "Was it not as hard to win, because the Russian team wasn't competing?" and Knight got incensed and yelled something like "The Russians know that if they had showed up, we would have kicked their ASSES!"

I remember Knight taking off his shoe and playfully pounding it on the table in a game with the Russians (a reference to a Kruschev incident from the Cold War).

Naturally, the usual suspects got bent out of shape, accusing him of creating an international incident. Knight was laughing the whole time when he did it.
