I’d submit if you are talking about Republicans, I’d agree with your premise. Conservatives, OTOH, I don’t know of any in the past 15 yrs. Some have said they are, but they always turn out to be rinos. The Potomac water always causes some “conservative brain cell eating organism” to be released in their brain, much like Chekov in the Star Trek movie Wrath of Khan, where Khan’s henchmen put that creature in his brain to control him.
