When they start saying ‘We believe’ ... rather than “I believe” ... it means they don’t themselves actually believe it. It’s a way to dilute the cognitive dissonance of the lie. Kasich is a sell out but not entirely devoid of distaste for what he’s doing, and even though he won’t say it ... he just did.

It’s like nurse talk: “How are we feeling today?” It has nothing to do with the speaker, but only the hearer.

Or they believe it but don’t have the guts to take on all the responsibility for the belief. To have the guts go out on that island alone. To have the guts to be “the man”.

To have the guts to lead.
