Maybe West Point is obsolete? Do we really need an expensive full four year college to train Army officers? ROTC and OCS programs produce good officers at less cost. Personally, I think all officers should spend some time as an enlisted soldier before attending an OCS type program.
I would respectfully disagree as I believe it’s the character of the officer, not any time in the ranks, that causes them to have empathy for Soldiers (the main takeaway I would see from making officer spend a few years enlisted). Also, I’ve known plenty of prior service officers despised by their troops which would make me disagree that Soldiers respect those who came from among them more.
