“Why do you care that I support Cruz? The bottom line is that Im voting for the nominee.”
Personally, I’m fine with people supporting whichever candidate their heart and conscience tells them would make the best POTUS, as long as their brain is honestly considering the ‘law of unintended consequences’.
Even though your heart and conscience tells you that Cruz is that man, can you honestly say that supporting him now, and withholding that support from Trump, will not aid and abet the enemy?
The legitimate purpose of requiring a majority (1237) is to arrive at a stronger consensus. Obviously, unanimity is the strongest consensus, followed by a super majority, then a majority, then a plurality, in that order.
The purpose of having a system of unbound delegates and multiple ballots, is to make it possible to resolve a plurality into a majority, for the sake of a stronger consensus.
Does anyone really think that is why the GOPe is pushing the #neverTrump contested convention meme?
No! They are clearly pushing it for the opposite reason - trying to thwart what appears to be a strong and building consensus, because the consensus is forming around Trump, an outsider candidate that would disenfranchise their established influence peddling cartel.
Cruz and his supporters need to accept that their mission, however noble at the outset, has now been fully co-opted by the GOPe insiders. Their path to 1237 on a 2nd or 3rd ballot is a wolf in sheep’s clothing - the Cruz wishful thinkers are simply being used by the GOPe #neverTrump alliance.
Well, I haven’t financially supported anyone. However, had been a political until ~1998 & was looking forward to voting for a conservative for the 1st time...& I will do so in my primary. In the last 2 general elections, I held my nose & voted for my 5th or 6th choices...so by the time of this general election I won’t be withholding my support (aka my vote) from the nominee...
