Peter King: Trump is ‘more reasonable’ than 'hopeless' Cruz

Peter King on Friday said he would back Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump over Ted Cruz, highlighting the billionaire as a more reasonable general-election candidate than the phony, hopeless, irredeemable Texas senator.
King voted for Ohio Gov. John Kasich in New Yorks primary, though he also correctly predicted that Trump would score a big victory in the state Tuesday. Similarly to the way he shied away from characterizing his vote as a Kasich endorsement, King stressed Friday that he isnt endorsing Trump but remarked that he would choose the real estate mogul over Cruz.
But Donald Trump, to be an effective candidate in the general election, has to show substance, King told CNN. He has to show that he's gone just beyond, you know, the name-calling and the sound bites and, again, he's not my first choice for candidate but he's got to show that he knows what he's talking about.

A backhanded, if factually accurate, compliment. After Cruz’s email yesterday where he claimed he was on the verge of claiming the Republican nomination, after being mathematically eliminated, I can only assume he’s had a break with reality

You mean you thought that:
1) Trump will turn blue states (like Mass, Mich) purple.
2) Trump will turn purple states (Fla, Colo) red.

So you like to threaten & intimidate, and therby silence, thought & speech (e.g., constitutional conservatism) which has now become politically incorrect with the advent of The Donald?
And if a solid constitutional conservative doesn’t CONFORM, he/she must be DISAPPEARED so said thoughts & words will no longer disturb the peace-of-mind of those in conformance?
Have we fallen this far? Have we allowed ourselves to be led, mindlessly, this far astray?

...Cruz, who is an ideological libertarian/conservative.
- - - - - - - -
Sorry, couldn’t let that one pass. Conservative? You can make that argument, but libertarian? No way.
Cruz’s political views are founded in Seven Mountain Dominionism. He (like GW Bush) believes government should be a tool to advance conservative principles. That’s why the federal government became larger and more intrusive under W, and why it will become larger and more intrusive under Cruz.
Cruz is no libertarian.

Sometimes, I think our Cruz friends swim in a very small puddle.
All of us FReepers are guilty of this at one time or another. We hang together around here and think that people that believe exactly what we believe are all in the same pond.
One quick view of any comments section of any online article should cure you of that.
Regardless of how fervently you believe every single position of your candidate, you must understand that not everyone agrees with you.
We all have to find the “sweet spot” (just like in baseball) in order to win, and then bring the candidate closer to our point of view.
Otherwise, defeat is certain and you lose all your positions.

Agreed
The same can be said of the Trump supporters

So tell me: What does Trump believe with regard to the proper role of federal government?
- - - - - - - - -
Well for one, he believes the federal government has no role in education. None, nada, zero.
He wants to eliminate common core and return education to the states. He has been consistent on this position and mentions it in every speech he makes.

No we haven't "fallen this far" Sparkplug, FR has always been a privately owned and operated entity by Jim Robinson, the Founder of this website, and when we're in his house, it is wise to bear in mind the policies and wishes of the homeowner.
JimRob has made it abundantly clear that the time for bickering and infighting has passed, Cruz is no longer a viable option, he is NOT acting as a conservative would act, he has become part and parcel of the GOPe and THEY are the "enemy within".
Trump is by default, the only candidate with a decent shot at whipping Hillary Rotten Criminal in the Fall, and we should all be getting behind him. If you can't do that, that's not anybody's problem but your own.
Free Republic is NOT a "public forum", it is private property and if you can't conduct yourself appropriately and abide by the wishes of the property owner, you should show some class, head for the exit, and GTFO.

I suspect that in the case of the ever dwindling numbers of Cruz supporters, it's to provide them a place to commiserate.

Well if JR says it we must all fall in line right? I don’t think so. Cruz will win it. In fact the GOPe is more likely to hurt Cruz than Trump because he is more dangerous to their cushy arrangement than a Trump presidency. Par Praedam.

If what you've said about JimRob is true, then anyone who still supports Cruz should be getting zotted. Unless you've taken it upon yourself to misrepresent JimRob's opinion as official site policy.

"We The People" have demanded Trump. And "We The People" have gotten what we demanded. Whether you or I disagree is irrelevant at this point. It is our job to get in line and support the candidate...unless you want Shillery as President.
