Excuse me?
At some point Trump claimed he could get rid of the National Debt (not deficit but the debt) in 2 terms. He is now taking the statement back.
I suspect some people started running around scared that he actually would. If he can get it down to 70% of what it is now, that is better than anything any of our recent presidents have done.

To go along with your post, the last time the national debt decreased from one fiscal year to the next was the year ending December 31, 1960. Reducing to 70% of what he inherits from Obama would indeed be HUUUUUUGE!
Just reducing it once would be a big deal.

If he can get it down to 70% of what it is now, that is better than anything any of our recent presidents have done. Given his proposals we'd be lucky if he didn't add 70% to what we have now.
