RE: I thought Americans wanted fewer regulations?

There were no regulations until a Charlotte municipal ordinance that allowed transgender individuals to use any restroom they wanted, regardless of whether it was designated for men or for women.

The bill overrides the city’s ordinance and prevents other cities in North Carolina from imposing similar measures.

Your argument then becomes government should not be in the business of determining whether or not a man wants to go to a woman’s bathroom and should not be passing a law preventing that.

Well, may I ask you respectfully, such a common sense law was not necessary in the first place. Why did Charlotte pass a law ALLOWING Transgenders to go to women’s bathrooms in the first place?

If it is one job of the government, it is to protect its citizenry from harm. The purpose of HB2 is to ensure that people, especially women and children but men as well, can use public restrooms, locker rooms, and changing areas without being exposed to people of the opposite biological sex. It’s pretty common sense.

If you want government out of your knickers, then don’t insist on men with different knickers violate what society has recognized and adhered to since the founding of this nation.

I don’t disagree with you.

I think the Charlotte law is stupid too, except if a “transgender” person like Caitlyn Jenner, who to me, looks like a woman, I would not give it a second thought of she were using the bathroom. In complying with the NC statute, the harm I see is that Caitlyn Jenner would be required to use the men’s room and if my husband was in there using a urinal he would certainly have a heart attack or be completely freaked out by it.

Civility requires society to make one another comfortable. That is why we try to watch our language in public and limit other conduct. Just as some bruiser walking into the ladies room would make women uncomfortable, I think the opposite is true. So its the overriding appearance of the person’s gender, not their actual gender that put’s people off. If a person looks like a woman, how would you know they were anatomically male without checking?

I was never a fan of girl reporters in the locker room. Call me old fashioned. It just does not seem respectful to me.

These folks that are transgender have a brain issue and for them I have sympathy. Mad world. People have lost respect for one another.
