“Going by a lot of what I read here on Free Republic, it seems that Trump supporters would see the destruction of the Republican Party, the removal of Republican elected senators and representatives, as a feature, not a bug.”
Yep, if he gets to 1237 and is still DENIED THE NOMINATION, you better believe we’ll take down the party as it can GO TO HELL.
On the other hand, if he gets to 1237 and is nominated, we will HAPPILY pull the lever for Republicans down-ballot and the party will survive.
If he gets less than 1237, we’ll play it by ear.

I'm picturing Rancid Penis, Tokyo Rove, Mitt Romney, Linda Graham clutching her pearls, iSnarly Fiorino, madly pounding on a forged steel door to a bunker somewhere in Texas marked "Bush Doomsday Shelter", screaming "you've GOT to let us IN!! the Republican Trump Rebels are coming!! They've got tar, feathers, rope, duct tape, and torches!!! PLEASE let us IN!!"
And this whiny little voice inside can be heard saying "Mommy? I think I hear something outside?" followed by "Don't you open that door Jebbie, there's no telling what riff-raff might be roaming around out there! Now go to your room and play with your Legos with cousin Teddy"
[commence shrieks and howls of terror mixed with demonic laughter from inside the bunker]

if he gets to 1237 and is still DENIED THE NOMINATION... If Trump makes it to 1237 with bound delegates, the GOP will nominate him. No problems.
But here's what I'm worried about, taking Pennsylvania as an example. As the article stated, 54 PA delegates are unbound, even on the first ballot. That stinks, but we are stuck with it.
So suppose John Doe wins a delegate slot in PA. Maybe John has said he supports Trump, so he's put in the Trump column. But John can vote any way he wants. The GOPe offers John campaign money for the next time John runs for dog catcher. All of a sudden John is not a Trump delegate.
John would then claim he never really was an official Trump delegate: "I'm an independent delegate, and I have the right to do what's best for the party and the country."
If that happens, like many others here I'm done with the GOP.
