Andrew Jackson was a Democrat. Democrats have their Jefferson-Jackson Day dinners. Are liberals OK with dissing Jackson in this manner??? After all he’s one of them.
Jackson was a D back when being a D did not mean leftist whacko. Quite possibly the most conservative president ever ... the only one to ever completely retire the US Debt during his tenure.
I know. It's a slap in the face of what the Democratic Party was for a century and a half. The country can take Jackson or leave him -- I can live without him -- but he was always central to the party. Obama, Sanders, and both Clintons have spoken at Jefferson-Jackson Day dinners, right down to this year.
But the party has repudiated its old base, just as Hillary Clinton abandoned the coal miners. In another twenty years, Jefferson-Jackson Day dinners may be a thing of the past. Some states have already changed. Minnesota has the Humphrey-Mondale Day dinner. A great idea for a party that doesn't plan on ever winning anything. Maybe they'll add Al Franken to the title before we're done.
A Jacksonian democrat would not recognize the party today. Jackson was one of the last real men to hold the office.
He shot men in duels and took crap off no one.
Yesterday’s Democrats are nothing like today’s Socioeconomic Fascist Democrats.
JFK used to be strong on defense and understood economics.
LBJ started the downhill slide.
Democrats in my local community decided to rename their annual Jefferson-Jackson get together....I don't know what they are going to call it.
