We are not amused.
translation: God, no! ANYTHING but King Charlie!
I wouldn’t be amused either if they insisted on mounting a 5.56mm rifle in that gawdawful machine before letting me fire it.
We’ll be doing the same over here in January.
Queen Elizabeth has class.
Queen Hillabeast is missing the “Cl”.
If I were British and saw the low rent soap opera that will be take over Windsor Castle after she dies, I’d probably vote for the republic.
Typical Guardian.
There is absolutely no significant call for a republic. In fact they monarchy is more popular now than it has been for years.
The Republic Movement will have to hope that the vast majority of ‘Monarchists’ are actually just ‘ Elizabethists. I have severe doubts about that.
Charles will certainly be king if he outlives his mother. Those who suggest that he will be pushed to one side don’t, with respect, understand the system.
I suspect some perfidy is behind this “republican” action. Many of the leaders in the EU openly despise the constitutional monarchs and other nobility, as being “in the way” to *their* becoming a de facto “neo-nobility”, in a decidedly undemocratic future Europe.
They also see the British crown as a rallying point for Euroskeptics, who want to preserve British sovereignty, integrity, and identity.
The EU so despises Britain, and England in particular, that in past they have considered bisecting England from North to South, putting one half in one European bloc, and the other in a different bloc.
They loathe its Common Law based legal system, and want to replace it with the much less egalitarian French Civil Code, itself based on the Code Napoleon, which descends from Roman Law.
In any event, hopefully her majesty will dignify the crown from her deathbed, by sending stranglers around to visit Charles, to insure the crown passes seamlessly to William.
The concept of an inheritable throne is ridiculous. It has served its purpose and needs to be laid to rest. The “royal family” needs to be turned into ordinary citizens immediately, and the UK needs to stop paying them because of whose child they are.
Since they are incapable of working at a job like normal people, they should receive a pension equivalent to what a typical senior citizen gets from Social Security, or $1700 a month.
It’s a good idea.
Kings and Queens are ludicrous.
Love that pic. All class and dignity :)
The Queen is a tough old biddy. Don’t think they have anyone of her caliber to take her place.
A republic is not a panacea for the problems of a monarchy. The problem for the UK is that in getting rid of the crown they would end up having an ineffective and weak president who would be appointed by the prime minister. In other words, they’d become a parliamentary dictatorship; a condition far worse than a constitutional monarchy. Also, what would happen to Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and so on?
