To all the political junkies yearning for a contested Republican convention this summer: not so fast.
It's still possible for Donald Trump to clinch the nomination by the end of the primaries on June 7. His path is narrow and perilous. But it's plausible and starts with a big victory Tuesday in his home state New York primary.
Trump is the only candidate with a realistic chance of reaching the 1,237 delegates needed to clinch the nomination before the July convention in Cleveland. His rivals, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Ohio Gov. John Kasich, can only hope to stop him.
If Cruz and Kasich are successful, politicos across the country will have the summer of their dreams a convention with an uncertain outcome. But Trump can put an end to those dreams, and he can do it without any of the 150 or so delegates who will go to the convention free to support the candidate of their choice.
What comes next isn't a prediction, but rather, a way in which Trump could win the nomination outright on June 7.
To be sure, Trump will have to start doing a lot better than he has so far. He gets that chance starting Tuesday, beginning the day with 744 delegates.

Trump is the ultimate RINO.
The most likely scenario is that either Trump gets to 1,237 before the convention or Cruz gets to 1,237 during the convention. That’s the game....but I’ll say it’s a CRuz win over Trump because Trups looking for a way out.
Trump is a liberal Democrat.....not even a rhino...though he could be said as this in his run...but in reality he’s still a Demorat Liberal.
Right I believe that lie too-—NOT! RINO voted for Coker and TPA which hurt America. Trump did neither.
BB-61 I believe.
April 19 - Tuesday - is:
NY (95) majority take all. Trump has to get over 50%, and it’s a question of his get out the vote efforts.
April 26 - a week later - is:
DE (16) winner take all
MD (38) winner take most
PA (71) winner take most
CT (28)
RI (19)
Again, it’s a question of get out the vote, but it’s also a question of knowing the rules. Trump has to allocate resources based on the delegate formula for that state. A good showing in NY will boost him for April 26, but he also needs to make an effort in each district of the “winner take most” states.
After April 26, we will know whether a first round nomination is likely or almost out of the question. How hard will Trump work between now and then? How hard will Cruz work? How comfortable are the voters with a Trump convention? With a contested convention?
Iowa
I remember that speech (and I also remember when the military leading the Pledge of Allegiance, they purposely went silent when it came time to utter “under God”. But you could hear the rest of the crowd say it loud and clear).
All that now seems like it happened years ago.
Yep...
Also they could eliminate Colorado from the delegates needed.
Cruz already took care of that.
You bet, Cruz owns it.
You bet, Cruz owns it.
Honesty and integrity always prevail, whining and sniveling nets you zero delegates.
We will see Tuesday.
I give Trump credit, he’s been working his butt off to make sure he does well in NY.
By the time this election is over the corrupt in D.C. will make the Nigerians look good.
Trump helped give us obama, nancy, schumer,Reid, pelosi, and mitch by supporting and donating to their campaigns. Trump that.
And finally having a good news week. It is nice to see.
The inept GOP gave us Obama. A couple of thousand dollars didn’t elect anyone. Trump that yourself. Cruz helped give us the Iran deal with Coker and he did us no favor with TPA. But that is ok since he is anointed right.
