Cruz didn’t have the funds for Walker but made a call to the GOP Establishment aka Romney who is the money wrangler.

Walker's call included an email to folks like me, who give a little bit to the Cruz campaign now and then. It was a gracious gesture, and a long sighted one. There is nothing wrong with making allies in this manner. Of course, Walker and Cruz are more compatible as they are both small government conservatives, and Trump is not running as a small government candidate. Before Trump enetered a lot of us were okay with either.

There is no reason why Walker would consider supporting Trump during the primaries, and he telegraphed it when he exited the race. At the time Cruz raised money for the Walker campaign, his pull with the GOP-E was not very strong, as John Ellis Bush and Rubio were still very much in it. Cruz was still in low double digits or so, as memory serves.

If Wisconsin wasn't winnable, why did Trump continue to misrepresent Walker's record in Wisconsin? He antagonized a good governor and good people needlessly. Just before the election, at least one polling operation (ARG) and many here saw a Trump win. Polling showed Trump within shooting distance, before he started using WI leftist and union thug talking points in a Republican primary. Trump himself threw away votes and turned what should have been a closer race into a rout.

There was no need to make an attack on Walker. This "immature governor with a High School education" took on and defeated the entire Madison/Milwaukee progressive machine, where it is VERY well organized, the hordes bused in from Chicago, the complete national resources of the thugacracy, crazies infesting the capital for weeks, the Dem senators fleeing the state, an adversarial court in Dane County, and the Wisconsin media. His high school plus three plus years of college at Marquette before he left to EARN A LIVING is not immature at all.

What is immature is making gratuitous insults to opponents, like calling Cruz a "p" word. It was beneath Trump, it is beneath his supporters. No one who has seen the low key Wisconsin governor for any length of time ever accused him of being a "Drama Queen". Accusing him of being a "Drama Queen" is a cheap turn to making insults rather than arguments, and invites being called a "drama queen" right back.

Trump lost big in Wisconsin. He lost big because he acted small. He misread the state, he misrepresented the record. I will be charitable and assume he just didn't do his homework.

Preaching ‘smaller government’ is pushing your buttons.

A lot of conservatives including me like to dream of smaller government. But then there’s reality.

I know the path BACK to smaller government and it’s not through Washington DC. That place has built too much legislative and constitutional structure in the past 100 years to wave a wand at over 4, 8 , 12 years and Presto! we lave smaller limited government.

In other words, your and my dream for smaller government is largely a fantasy. It will take a generation or more of believing Americans to get back to the small government model of the 19th century.

Pragmaticism is needed. Pragmaticism is what Trump is all about. Walker cut union siphoning off of state goverment but he hasn’t cut spending. As Trump has said, he has a $2 billion shortfall and he will have to borrow to meet the budget. His fight with the unions and the GAB made him a folk here or rockstar in Wisconsin. But as I said he’s no hero, he’s a damsel in distress that brings out chivalrous responses among voters who want to be seen as heroes to their damsel.

Cruz? All talk, no action. He has never cut any spending anywhere and he makes enemies where he doesn’t need to. Cruz will not be president and if we dream he would be, then we’d have a tough time dreaming he could ever get anything done.

Ronald Reagan couldn’t get limited or smaller government in 8 years. Cruz is no Reagan, not even close.

Exactly what is ‘smaller’ government.?

I could go rattle off things like abolish the IRS, abolish the EPA, Abolish the Departments of Education and Energy, defund PP and so on.

Well that’s all well and good but then there’s reality. One needs to have Congress behind it and that’s where the fight is, that’s where the negotiating and horse trading come in. And that’s where Trump is the master.

But you like to vote for the ‘rallying cry’, the things that push your buttons. When you become aware of that, you will be the wiser.

I will vote for the outsider that actually has the skills to make things better and not the one that thinks they can fool me with their words and rallying cries.
