Longtime conservative activist Phyllis Schlafly has asked her daughter and five others to resign from the board of Eagle Forum after tension spread through the group over Schlaflys endorsement of Donald Trump.
Schlafly asked board members Eunie Smith, Carolyn McLarty, Anne Cori, Rosina Kovar, Shirley Curry, and Cathie Adams to step down in an April 10 letter. Cori is Schaflys daughter. All but Curry have endorsed Ted Cruz in the Republican presidential primary.
In March, Schlafly endorsed Trump. She said, weve been following the losers for so long now weve got a guy whos going to lead us to victory.
One of the members that Schlafly is asking to resign, Cathie Adams, has previously said that Schlaflys endorsement is going to be widely dismissed. At 91, it is just totally unfair to impose upon someone who has such a beautiful legacy. I think this was very much a manipulation. When youre 91 and youre not out with the grass roots all the time, it is very much taking advantage of someone.
Schlafly wrote in the letter that she asks for these resignations with a heavy heart.
I have fond memories of our work together and our friendships. I will cherish those, she wrote. I ask you to resign immediately from the Board, so that I may continue with Eagle Forums important work.
The Eagle Forum in a statement Saturday alleged that the six board members are pursuing a scheme to push Phyllis Schlafly out of Eagle Forum.
The statement referred to them as the Gang of Six, and accused them of plotting to meet Monday to discuss their hidden agenda. The Eagle Forum alleged these board members as being backed by a big, liberal law firm.
The statement went on to accuse the members of refusing to return calls and insulting Schlafly.
Her age is in the article, it ain’t 102.
Eagle Forum is a conservative interest group in the United States founded by Phyllis Schlafly in 1972
and is the parent organization that also includes the Eagle Forum Education
and Legal Defense Fund and the Eagle Forum PAC
Nobody thinks Donald Trump is a conservative messiah.
I can't think how any intelligent person could come up with such a ridiculous phrase.
Trump is imperfect. Everyone knows that. He makes mistakes.
But Trump has framed the narrative of this campaign and allowed a discussion of border security, appeasement of Mexican drug cartels, not paying to bring hundreds of thousands of Muslims to the U.S. to go on welfare.
Trump has talked about the treatment of our veterans, the weakening of the military, the bad trade deals, the loss of jobs in the U.S. and the deliberate destruction of the middle class.
Trump talked about the size of the national debt and the failure of the Washington establishment.
If not for Trump no one would talk about these issues.
If not for Trump, Jeb! would be the nominee by now and the discussion would be about how Republicans need to reach out to liberals and make America more welcoming and how we must fight the racism that is in all white Americans.
Trump has exposed the evil, corrupt Washington establishment and they are determined to destroy him.
Good for Phyllis for cleaning out the DC hacks from the esteemed Eagle Forum. Even her own daughter!! Ha!
Backbone!
Trump spews hatred, lies, insults, and smears. How can any rational person question why he is hated?
What about the level of hatred directed at people who tell the truth about Trump? It’s not a popular time to be a conservative or admit the emperor has no clothes.
Sorry delegaTED but your sailing down the river where Jebbers awaits you soon. It was a fun ride while it lasTED.
So, you support a candidate who says the Confederate flag should be banned and bashed Justice Scalia for criticizing affirmative action?
So, if your employees don’t support your candidate of choice, then they should resign from their positions. Even your own family members. Sounds like a damn Liberal.
No, suppression of free speech is now a conservative value. Didn't you get the memo?
... The level of hatred directed at Trump has risen to ridiculous levels. The political establishments CAN OF WORMS must be HUGE.
If you want to see hate look at the attacks on Cruz and Cruz supporters that are entirely personal. His supporters on this site have called Cruz everything but white, ans negative caricature pics. I have personally never seen one of the pics of Trump with small hands and a pacifier in his mouth.
Trump mocked a disabled reporter, attacked Heidi, NE ridiculous nonstory planted by Stone and Pecker, Fiorina’s looks, lol NE even planted stories about Carson being a terrible surgeon, and Trump trashed every single republican that Trump found out spoke against him.
Trump at his rallies now is leading the cheer for audience to repeat “lying Ted”. That is elementary school politics.
And you wonder why 65-70% of republican voters don’t have warm fuzzy feelings for your guy? He has alienated them with his own actions and policies.
“No, suppression of free speech is now a conservative value. Didn’t you get the memo?”
Yeah if you support Trump, everyone else should be punished if they don’t. I definitely got the memo.
And I thought Bill Clinton was "slick">
And he has done nothing.
He has spoken on both sides of the issues and talked about all these issues from both sides so much that it would take an encyclopedia to document all his different positions.
Trump is imperfect. Everyone knows that. He makes mistakes.
But he never admits that he makes a mistake. He just calls everyone who points out his inconsistencies "liars".
He is the biggest egomaniac to ever seek any office, not merely the presidency.
He claims to be a "Great Christian" but he also says that he has never asked God to forgive him of anything in his life.
Yeah Great Christian. Great Conservative. Great Salesman.
The people at the Eagle Forum see through the fog. Schlafly is imperfect. She makes mistakes too. One of the biggest in her life was to endorse the Donald Trump.
“In March, Schlafly endorsed Trump. She said, weve been following the losers for so long now weve got a guy whos going to lead us to victory.”
Phyllis may be a matron, but she’s spot on with that comment. Even if Cruze were who he claims to be, he’s simply GOPe “lite.” He’s all horn and no driveshaft, plus we can already see he can be bought. We need a president who will tip the can over and shake all the cockroaches out in the open where they can be stepped on.
With Cruze, the cockroaches are his friends.
She may be 91, but she can still kick butt !!
You gotta love her, right ?
“If not for Trump no one would talk about these issues.”
Absolutely true! Without Trump, Cruze would be a not so sweet memory at this juncture, and it would be GOPe politics as usual with the Jebbito Boosh flavor of their infamous $hit sandwich, awaiting his coronation ball in Cleveland.
