I disagree with Hoft.

Cruz has a plan, a devious plan that certainly very few voters except the most rapid Cruzoids would support. I don’t know what it is, but clearly he has a plan to win on the FIRST ballot.

I say this because he is too smart not to know that if it goes to a second ballot, he will never, NEVER, . . . EVER be the nominee. He has to know he is a sock puppet put up to stop Trump in order to get a Rubio or a Walker or someone else in. I’m sure he knows that. Therefore, I don’t believe he is angling for Veep any longer. I think he has a plan to steal it on round one, perhaps by controlling Trump state delegations with his little insiders so they “pass” when called to build up perceived “momentum” for Cruz. Now, I have no idea what that gains him . . . legally, by the rules . . . but we know he doesn’t care about that stuff.

But I do think he has a plan to steal it on the first round. He knows he can’t make it through a second.

I don't know...I think he's pretty much sold out and is doing whatever the establishment wants him too. My personal opinion is that he's trying to keep this as nasty as possible to make Trump and possibly himself look totally unacceptable. At the convention he'll switch to whatever person the establishment wants him to support and encourage the thought the whole process has been sullied by Trump and they need a fresh face.

Lawnewz.com carried an insightful article on how Trump loses even if he surpasses 1237.

The stealth delegates that Cruz is having elected and placed on the Rules Committee will pass a rule change that unbinds Trump delegates because they were uncertain of their support for Trump and want to change their minds.

So Trump loses on the first ballot because of defections.

The next question is what will the resulting maelstrom of Trump supporter rage bring?

One scenario is that the RNC will attempt to portray themselves as above the fray and call for fairness by having a runoff vote amongst delegates. The runoff will go to Cruz as the delegates become officially unbound by the rules.

It will be theft and fraud, but the RNC will devise a narrative that portrays them as being fair amid all the contentiousness of the Trump v. Cruz camps.

Seems more likely than not that he's just an unwitting tool who flatters himself. There's a lot of that in DC.
