Actually that is incorrect. Rafael ‘papa’ Cruz
was a CUBAN citizen at the time. He didn’t become a Canadian until 1973. Ted is a natural born CUBAN citizen from his father’s Cuban citizenship.

I must agree with the article in that I have never seen any PROOF that Ted is a U.S. citizen of any kind. Has anyone? Please post it. Not hearsay, I mean a document.

Thanks for the correction. I’ve not chased this Cruz fiasco around in sometime so I
may have some of the time line incorrect. Hopefully we want have to deal with this much longer

His parents didn’t care about his citizenship when he was born or thereafter; on paper he was a natural born Canadian by any standards. He entered the USA at 4 as a Canadian on paper.

He could have received USA citizenship papers at birth but no one was motivated to get them. I’m sure he thought he was American growing up in America. But no one had gone to get his documentation. When he was 16, he needed a passport for a school trip. So mom had to use Canadian embassies or travel to Canada to get his birth docs and make it happen for him.

He was always eligible for USA citizenship. But didn’t receive his USA papers until age 16.

We don’t have a concise enough definition in our Constitution — and we need one — to say whether Cruz is an NBC.
