From 1790

“The Act also establishes the United States citizenship of certain children of citizens, born abroad, without the need for naturalization: “the children of citizens of the United States that may be born beyond Sea, or out of the limits of the United States, shall be considered as natural born Citizens: provided, That the right of citizenship shall not descend to persons whose fathers have never been resident in the United States”

Cruz father had never been a citizen of the United states at the time of birth so even 1790 doesnt apply.

Fundemental lack of understanding.

You are right, but that’s threading the needle even finer. It requires the knowledge of what resident meant at that time which was a commitment to become an American citizen.

Well all, fun discussion but its movie night with the kids so Im outta here.

I would like to leave you all with this. There seems to be a concerted effort to dillute or outright destroy the natural born clause. It is one of the greatest protections provided by the framers. We would do well to protect it, no matter how great a candidate or future candidate may be.
