Conservative commentator Charles Krauthammer predicted that the Republican Party would most certainly collapse if Donald Trump is denied a presidential nomination at the convention in July.
In his latest column for the Washington Post, Krauthammer said if Trump does not lock up the nomination before the convention he has the most delegates but needs a majority it is possible the party will coalesce around an alternative and the billionaire's supporters will walk away, leaving the party in shambles.
"And if Trump loses out, a split is guaranteed," wrote Krauthammer. "In Trump's mind, he is a winner. Always. If he loses, it can only be because he was cheated. He constantly contends that he's being treated unfairly. He is certain to declare any convention process that leaves him without the nomination irredeemably unfair. No need to go third party. A simple walkout with perhaps a thousand followers behind will doom the party in November."
Trump has insisted that if he has the most delegates, even if it's less than half of those needed to win the nomination, he should be granted the nomination. But party rules allow delegates at a brokered convention to re-vote to elect a candidate who they believe to be most likely to beat the Democratic nominee in a general election.

Don’t care. Without Trump it’s just a matter of who wins the race to the bottom. My guess is Cruz would be worse than Hillary but he’ll never get the chance.
That's certainly true..but the GOPee is NOT happy about losing the senate and the house. If Trump followers walk then the GOPee will lose the down-ticket races badly. They will be totally out of power and thus unable to ride on that gravy train.
Glad to see they are waking up. Funniest statement was when he says trump thinks he should win even if he only has half the delegates. Ha! Trump is way past the half way mark.
Really if the Trump fanboys hat the GOP so much just go away. Start your own party.
I’d never vote for Cruz so we’re even.
If Trump honestly loses the nomination, as he has said, nothing will happen. It is what it is. BUT. If he is denied the nomination after gaining the requisite amount of delegates or close to, that, indeed, will be ugly.
They will, the Secession Party.
I have NEVER seen a party that WANTS to lose an election more than the GOP wants to lose this one. Makes me wonder why I am Republican and why I should vote.
I would hope that the GOP, as a party, is wise enough to see that should a candidate receive double or more than their closest rival’s delegate count, then that candidate whould be the nominee.
If Trump is significantly short of the 1237, he will need to demonstrate his ability to coordinate a deal with his opponents (including the GOP party itself).
If he falls just a few short - such as being over 1100 or 1150, then the party will not be able to easily justify selecting another nominee - even the next runner up in the delegate count.
If a dark horse nominee emerges, then the whole party - indeed the whole country - will have to burn to the ground before the party elites will be able to justify their perfidy.
To those that insist that political chicanery is within the rules of the party, my reply is that the rules were established by the party to serve the party, and in this unusual election cycle, the voters are watching to see if what they need and want makes a difference. The party needs and wants votes - but if the people come to understand that the party is unwilling to follow the voters’ lead, then the party will cease to exist.
2010 and 2014 were landslide GOP wins in congress, borne on the backs of GOP promises that have been clearly demonstrated to be lies. “Politics as usual” this year means the death of the GOP.
We may do that. You can have the leftovers. Good luck you’ll need it.
Just another sCruzball, working for Hitlery. Gotta love it.
Trump for President.
No one but Trump. No more big bank puppets. No one but Trump.
The only significant difference between Trump and the GOPe is trade and immigration. Nationalism vs. globalism. The fact that it’s so important to the GOPe that they are ready to screw over a near majority of the voters who support Trump to prevent any change to the status quo, and would rather have Hillary just because she too is a globalist tells you all you need to know about the GOP’s priorities.
Count me in.
“Close to?”
So if Trump does not get the 1237 REQUIRED BY THE RULES to win the nomination you will stay home and let Hillary destroy America?
Gore got more votes in 2000 but the RULES (the electoral college) still gave the presidency to Bush.
Did you complain then?
So you are a hillary supporter.
what the F are YOU doing here?
