Then Protestantism came along and the Catholic Church latched onto evolutionism and (Protestant-created) higher criticism in order to disprove the "Protestant" bible and to prove the need for oral tradition.
That was before Catholic bibles contained higher critical commentary. Don't tell me you haven't noticed.
