Bakersfield was such a small town back then. Everyone knew everyone. My Mom and my aunt worked in the local bars so knew all the famous people. What nobody understands is they weren’t really ‘stars’ to all of us because we had known them and seen them around town for so long.
Bonnie Owens was one of my best friends aunt. We used to go out drinking and Bonnie would find us and follow us around town crying in her beer about Merle when he was married to the 2nd Leona.

I hardly listen to country any more except for recordings that include Merle’s.
40 something years ago my wife and I danced our fist dance to “Silver Wings” at the Cimarron Country Ballroom at Perkins, Oklahoma.
America’s icons are falling for me at least. I can’t relate anymore.
