Recently there was an alarming headline stating 600+ Libraries have closed in the US. Can't locate the article now, but here is this from HuffPost:

Seventeen public libraries within the United States closed in 2008 or 2009 and have apparently not reopened as of March 2012. - That’s 17 out of 9,299 (in 2009) or 9,284 (in 2008) or 0.2%.

The problem here is that millions upon millions of people received a horrible education in our public school system. In the case of liberal democrats there is a huge percentage that read, write and comprehend on the level of a 5th grader. These folks won't go to a library because they just can't read.
