Linguists have discovered that accents not only place the speaker to a city or to a borough, but also down to specific neighborhoods in New York.

That’s pretty cool.

That's neat, but something which is pretty old; The Henry Higgins character in George Bernard Shaw's 1913 play, "PYGMALION", which the musical "MY FAIR LADY" was based on, was a linguist, who supposedly could do that for all of London and some foreign nationals who spoke English, too.

What they did leave out was cross generational changes, which are also fascinating!

OTOH, my accent truly would drive any such authority nuts. ;^)
