FARGO, N.D. Ted Cruzs preferred candidates won the vast majority of convention delegates available in North Dakota over the weekend, taking 18 of 25 slots in the state in another show of organizational strength over Donald Trump.
Its still not clear how loyal all of Cruzs slate will be if the Republican nomination heads to a contested convention in Cleveland, as several included on it told POLITICO they were only leaning toward Cruz, or simply opposed to Trump.
But the result was bad news for Trump, who may need unbound delegates like those in North Dakota to lift him above the 1,237 delegate threshold to secure the GOP nomination this summer on the initial ballot. Only one of the 25 delegates selected Sunday has publicly signaled he might back Trump.
This is a catastrophic outcome for the Trump campaign in North Dakota, said Jason Miller, a senior adviser to Cruz. "Just when you thought the Donalds horrible, very bad, no good week couldnt get any worse, it just did.
The North Dakota delegation has been heavily sought after because they are free agents from the first ballot in Cleveland, able to support Cruz, Trump or John Kasich. State rules do not, however, require to name the candidate they support before being elected leaving their votes in question up until the convention in July.
The selection of delegates came after a hard-fought weekend of schmoozing and arm-twisting, as Cruz delivered a keynote convention address, Carly Fiorina campaigned on his behalf all weekend, and Ben Carson spoke for Trump. Kasichs campaign sent former Sen. Gordon Humphrey of New Hampshire as their top surrogate but the state party gave him an untimely speaking slot after the delegate ballots had been cast.

Sorry, the evidence here on FR tells a very different story.
And the fact that you’ve opted to use a derogatory nickname in your post tells me that perhaps you’re not so innocent either.
I can guarantee that if it was Trump who was out-foxing Cruz on lining up these delegates, the Trumpsters would be proclaiming his genius from the mountain tops! However, since he’s simply incompetent, it must be Cruz and the “Establishment’s” fault.
The focus is on the interloper before he can do more damage to a party the CONSERVATIVE BASE HAS BEEN TRYING TO TAKE OVER.
Now Don-Don is not helping.
We will take it in spite of him.
November will work itself out.
Have a little faith.
Not all of us took the “BOOB BAIT FOR THE BUBBAS” like some of our FRiends did.
Jedi.
Nope. They are not voters who are American.
Yes, Cruz has surrounded himself with real winners, incl Mitt, Jeb, Rove... That sure is alot of vaseline the brave anti-establishment Cruz has had to use. I wonder if he can walk after all his bending over.
-—You think Trump will govern like a conservative, right?
.
.
.
.
I hope not.
We’ve seen how “conservatives” have been governing.
Try that again in English. Are you saying that because you don’t agree with they way they voted, they aren’t American? Wow, that’s some power you have there.
Those weren’t conservatives. Trump will govern like a businessman. And when he doesn’t get his way he’ll sue and stomp his feet, just like obama.
I don’t think Cruz surrounded himself with those people. Some of those folks see Cruz as the lesser of two evils. Do I trust some or any of them? Not really. If the GOP tries to steal the nominee from either Trump or Cruz, there will be hell to pay and I say, at that point, Trump and Cruz put aside their pettiness and join forces to start a new party.
I hold no "seething hatred" for The Donald (or "Il Donald" as I've taken to calling him). However, several sites' commentariets, including this one's, Brietbart's, Gateway Pundit's, The Consevative Treehouse's, and others' have become so infested with Trumpholes that comments to most postings have become unreadable due to the outpourings of vitriol that accompany any article that might be seen as even slightly negative toward their beloved authoritarian strong man.
I didn't vote for Trump in my state's primary, and am one of the millions of conservatives and libertarians who will be unable to vote for him in the general, if indeed he is the nominee. In my case, it will be the first time since I first voted in 1972 for Tricky Dock that I will vote for someone other than the GOP candidate at the top of the ticket (I may just leave the presidential choice blank if I can't warm to one of the Libertarian candidates). I'll vote straight GOP on all the downballot races.
Il Donald doesn't scare me as much as his crazed partisans. Trump himself may not be a fascist, but there is a distinct fetid odor of fascism in the air around his mobs of slavishly devoted followers.
I guess you're right.
The interloper Cruz HAS done a lot of damage to the party already.
Fortunately, Donald Trump is repairing the damage and preparing to win the general election against the Uniparty. :)
I've always liked "Donaldo Trumpolini", myself. :)
I think naps’ post was pretty clear.
Thanks for your response.
I certainly agree with you that voting for Trump in the Presidential election is not a coup d’état.
It was also a non-sequitur to my comment about defining “establishment”.
It’s always fascinating.
So, you agree that anyone who doesn’t vote for The Donald isn’t a “true American?” The hubris around this site as of late is amazing.
No, you can't.
Whay are you putting words in napscoordinator's mouth, and in my mouth?
naps didn't post that at all.
Mormons?
Women?
Pro-lifers?
Mexican-Americans?
Cuban-Americans?
American-Americans?
Catholics?
Conservative base voters?
The cross-over votes he hoped for have bailed out of the Bozo bus and have gone home to the demonratic party in whence they came.
The GOPe is done...all the delegates are belong to us.
If not now.
By convention time.
Yep.
Jedi.
Cruz is just smarter and savvier than trump. so ridiculous that trump doesn’t really know what he’s doing and is being thwarted in these kinds of settings.
not surrounded by smart people apparently!
Carry on.
