Someone in the family was saying the Beatles were way over rated at a dinner party a while back A 30 year old spoke up and said if they had had the sound system we have now heaven knows what they could have done with music. He said they were amazing as it was. I was shocked! LOL

As an entrepreneur in high-end audio, my business interfaces with the music industry.

Considering the Beatles were working with 4-tracks (all analog), what they did in the studio was simply extraordinary. In addition, they produced separate mono & stereo versions (until Pepper) with the greater care spent on the mono versions.

Kudos to their engineers - Norman Smith then Geoff Emerick & later Ken Scott - who became quite creative with minimal tools compared to what’s available today. More importantly, the sound quality was and remains quite exceptional compared with today’s compressed & lifeless tracks.

There is no denying the Beatles had an impact on society during their heydey. Other bands had greater musical chops - i.e. Yardbirds - but no one came close to what the Beatles did musically & culturally speaking.

That’s great the yougin’ got it and felt comfortable to saying it.

I used to say - how many others are out there that are 4 guys with 4 instruments, that write their own songs, that has an impact on so many people. Granted I was speaking about their earlier albums, like the 1st one - Meet the Beatles. As they went on they got more instruments and players involved, but they were still darn good!

In music theory final we were given two compositions to analyze. First really easy. No one could crack the second. Prof stopped test early. Said both were written by young men same age - composing for the youth of their age Mozart was the easy one Beatles the second. His final comment : when musichologist look back on twentieth century the greatest composers will be Lennon & McCarthney.
