“If anybody other than Trump or Cruz is the nominee, it will be the end of the Republican Party.”

If Cruz becomes the nominee, it still will be the end of the Republican Party (not that there’s anything wrong with that). There’s NFW the Dems aren’t ready to take him out, take him down, based on his NBC issue. They pray Cruz is the nominee.

His delegate support isn’t nearly so soft.

Meanwhile, Trump supporters, many handpicked by the establishment, will bolt by the hundreds after round 1.

That’s the point. Hell, that’s the race.

Yes it is very soft, as the article points out, and the GOP is well aware of. But my original point was that Cruz would have no one marching in the streets to save him. Enthusiasm for Cruz is so low he's literally having volunteers/staff attend rallies in order to boost numbers, while Trump gets 7 thousand people to show up with 1 or 2 days advance notice.

If Cruz doesn't have the People siding with him, he simply doesn't have anything at all. No one will be protesting to save Cruz at the convention and no one will be going to bat for him. He'll be abandoned even by his surrogates, guaranteed.

Either Trump or Cruz can win on the second ballet..

But calling ones supporters Boogers is likely not a good way to get them to deal with Trump to push him over the top. Maybe Trump can work a deal with marco.

Well good for Ted. Who cares what the voters want as long as plays ‘the rules’ to his advantage

So much for the “ethical” candidacy

My bet is that Rubio IS the establishment choice. It’s why he hasn’t endorsed, on advice of the Party, and why he’s scrambling to keep his delegates.

So now you’re not suppose to follow the rules?

Until/unless they get changed, the rules have been the same for everyone.

Trump could have worked to ensure the establishment weren’t choosing his delegates for him.

Cruz mistakenly believes that if he is a major player in the bring down Trump movement, that he will be rewarded with his goal of being the Republican nominee. What Cruz has either not considered, or is dismissing out of hand, is that the entire primary system has been designed by The Establishment to keep people like him out. Add to that the fact that he, personally, is one of the most disliked people in all of Washington. There is simply no way that Ted Cruz will ever be the nominee. In exactly the same manner that Trump will be cheated if he is over 1,237, so will Cruz be if he ever gets to that level... and if he doesn’t comma then the establishment has the perfect excuse for tossing him aside.

The treatment that Kasich received should be instructive to Cruz and to his supporters: while Kasich was of use to The Establishment, he was their darling. Mitt Romney endorsed him for President prior to Ohio, but the moment that he had delivered the goods, Romney dropped him like a bag of warm dog crap and endorsed Cruz.

Cruz is simply the best tool in the tool box of the Establishment at this particular moment In time. Once his usefulness is over, he will be discarded as quickly as Kasich was. I wish that he would wake up and smell the roses on this issue. The Establishment will never, ever let Ted Cruz be nominated for President. He should have some self-respect, as well as some degree of self interest, and stop being used by them for their purposes. Instead, he should cut his best deal with Trump. I would not mind seeing him be the Solicitor General for a couple of years, with a deal that he will choose two or three candidates that he prefers for every single judicial nominee that Trump makes. After a couple of years, Cruz will be entitled to say to Trump that he should be nominated for the Supreme Court upon the next available vacancy. Cruz will thus have an incredible impact over an extended period of time on the judicial system of this nation, perhaps even bringing us back to a federal system that actually abides by the Constitution. I can think of no better and long-lasting legacy for somebody in the legal field like Cruz.

All Politics are local

With no Coattails the GOPe will kill city, county and state republican politicians, but they don't care.

They cannot go too much further along the uniparty globalization path without it.

They’re not stealing anything from Trump. It’s their party, their money and their rules which are not even decided yet..
