(NBC) - Donald Trump says he regrets retweeting an unflattering photo of the wife of rival Ted Cruz, a rare move for the Republican front-runner more known for his boasts than backtracking.
"Yeah, it was a mistake," Trump told New York Times.
"If I had to do it again, I wouldn't have sent it."
The retweet set off a war of words between the two candidates, and gave fresh fuel to Democratic candidates and other critics who marveled at a Republican presidential race that had descended into a fight over the candidates' wives.
Trump retweeted the photo compilation showing an unflattering picture of Heidi Cruz and his own wife, Melania, after he accused Cruz of being behind or at least knowing about an ad that featured an old picture of Melania Trump posing nude for GQ magazine.
Cruz has denied any involvement in the ad, which was shared online. Cruz scolded Trump after the retweet, admonishing the businessman: "Donald, real men don't attack women."
told Dowd, according to the column. "So what's your next question?"
The PAC didn’t use his name.....that is a lie Trump and his supporters keep telling!!!
So where is your proof the PAC bought the CR license of President Trump’s wife from GQ?
I find the Cruz’s the epitome of petty and deceptive. Given I am conservative and I recognize con artists in action. What is your excuse for white washing the Clinton reenactment.
A responsible and honest candidate would immediately disavow the PAC that used the Melania photo. Publically disavow the ad, and the entire PAC.
But not a peep from Cruz.
A responsible and honest candidate would not have published an unflattering photo of another candidates wife. But a candidate with the mentality of a third grader would have!!!

They are not surrogates....that is in the mind of Trump and his supporters as a reason to keep lying. The PAC has said on numerous occasions they support no candidate that their sole reason for being is to defeat Donald Trump!!
What a wasted string of alphabet. Nobody benefited from that slaughter..stuck on stupid, the distorted Cruz way.
It was a lesson on logic...if you had bothered to read the post it was directed at you would have known that!!!
A responsible and honest candidate would have not been a hypocrite about where he said the head of a Campaign is responsible for all activities that happen under him and accepted responsibility as the leader of the campaign, denounced the conduct of his PAC and put in place policies to prevent a re-occurrence of the improper conduct in his name.
He would not have planned in advance before the incidents started to draw an innocent into the mess he knew was coming from a magazine regarding his affairs as a way to muddy the waters so as to deflect from himself.
Since he has nothing to do with that PAC he isn't responsible for what they do....and owes no explanation except he had nothing to do with it...which he stated on day one!!!
.
Like every word that comes from the Trump camp, it is a vile lie.
The joke is on America, as usual.
.
Understatement of the year.
When you find yourself doing circular arguments over and over, like here. you lose.
And you believed them? (Did you vote for Obama?)
I don’t think so....when you keep reraeting stuff with nothing to prove it you lose!!
reraeting + repeating
No I did not vote for Obama...but your candidate did in 2008!!!
