(NBC) - Donald Trump says he regrets retweeting an unflattering photo of the wife of rival Ted Cruz, a rare move for the Republican front-runner more known for his boasts than backtracking.
"Yeah, it was a mistake," Trump told New York Times.
"If I had to do it again, I wouldn't have sent it."
The retweet set off a war of words between the two candidates, and gave fresh fuel to Democratic candidates and other critics who marveled at a Republican presidential race that had descended into a fight over the candidates' wives.
Trump retweeted the photo compilation showing an unflattering picture of Heidi Cruz and his own wife, Melania, after he accused Cruz of being behind or at least knowing about an ad that featured an old picture of Melania Trump posing nude for GQ magazine.
Cruz has denied any involvement in the ad, which was shared online. Cruz scolded Trump after the retweet, admonishing the businessman: "Donald, real men don't attack women."
told Dowd, according to the column. "So what's your next question?"
I’ve never heard such a claim!!!Got any source for that!!

1. trivial or nonsensical fuss.
Is this from “The Onion”?
How are your sinuses, hon - still a bit tender?
He denied it on NBC and other venues!!! Trump has no proof of Teds involvement and has produced nothing that can be verified.....just a bunch of tweets!!!
Attaboy! Go for the personal attack. Demonstrate more of that Trump ‘class.’
ac all ass
At the end, would we rather look like Melania or Heidi?
And keep in mind, a strategic "move" is not something said off the cuff, but a carefully thought out action designed to shift the balance of power in Trump's favor.
This apology or admission of guilt is such a "move."
It is an olive branch to Cruz and his supporters.
That would mean that he is thinking ahead to a possible contested convention in which he and Ted may have to join forces to defeat a move by the establishment to reject them both for a nominee of its choosing.
Just guessing but this "move" would appear--by its timing--to have been formulated with the input of "master" delegate counter and convention strategist, Paul Manafort, who Trump just hired last week.
We need to keep an eye on the Cruz team to see if and, if so, how the Cruz team responds.
As a follow-on point, it is important to note that this "apology" or admission of error signals an shift in the Trump style of campaigning much like his use of a teleprompter in his very well received speech the AIPAC conference recently.
“Heh-heh. Just kidding.”
Hey, you’re the goose who selected a screen name that’s a synonym for nonsense. Deal with it.
Is that what he did? If that's true, I'm finished with Cruz. Don't know who I'll support now.
pulleeze, Melanias photo was done for money and was meant for public cosumption.
What Donny did was plain wrong.
He should have siaddamn she looks good doesnt she?
That would have been the end of it but he had rto find an unflattering picture of Hiedie and mock her.
just what you woud expect from a bully
You’re just like Trump.....you judge women on their looks. For myself I would rather America looked more like Golda Meir!!!
I guess you missed Heidi using the words "What I think most women want is a better future for their children, and thats what I want and its why Ted and I are running, she said." http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2016/03/23/heidi-cruz-gives-rare-solo-presser-trump-threat-to-spill-the-beans-has-no-basis-in-reality/
I get exhausted by those that think they can insult others intelligence. Heidi herself said 'Ted and I are running', but you carry on the deception and distortions.
The answer to your question is no...it is not true!!!
That’s fine. I think it’s more of a look to the general than having anything to do with porkchop-head. Just my opinion, of course.
I always thought that retweet was a tempest in a teapot.
Then why am I seeing it everywhere?
Golds looked fine but was a Socialist.
