Electoral Map Is a Reality Check to Donald Trumps Bid By JONATHAN MARTIN and NATE COHN APRIL 2, 2016

Donald J. Trumps presidential candidacy has stunned the Republican Party. But if he survives a late revolt by his rivals and other leaders to become the partys standard-bearer in the general election, the electoral map now coming into view is positively forbidding.
In recent head-to-head polls with one Democrat whom Mr. Trump may face in the fall, Hillary Clinton, he trails in every key state, including Florida and Ohio, despite her soaring unpopularity ratings with swing voters.
In Democratic-leaning states across the Rust Belt, which Mr. Trump has vowed to return to the Republican column for the first time in nearly 30 years, his deficit is even worse: Mrs. Clinton leads him by double digits in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania.
Mr. Trump is so negatively viewed, polls suggest, that he could turn otherwise safe Republican states, usually political afterthoughts because of their strong conservative tilt, into tight contests. In Utah, his deep unpopularity with Mormon voters suggests that a state that has gone Republican every election for a half-century could wind up in play. Republicans there pointed to a much-discussed Deseret News poll last month, showing Mrs. Clinton with a narrow lead over Mr. Trump, to argue that the state would be difficult for him.

It is the same media. Just as out of touch. History is not repeating itself. It is the same day just a different reporter.
You mean the country's days will be over. Let's face it. Conservatism has lost and the country has permanently lurched to the left.
So Trump, or a Trump-like candidate is the new normal. In effect he, and others to follow will be the new Romney. The chances of seeing an actual conservative again in our lifetime is slim to none.
So when people say that Trump will build a wall, right-side trade etc., one can't help but ask: what is it that you're attempting to preserve?
Just saw this about poor old Sarah Palin. I did love her once.
In her Wisconsin debut as a Donald Trump surrogate, Sarah Palin was met with tepid applause and stone-faced silence Friday night at a Milwaukee County Republican gathering.
In contrast, the 750 Republicans at American Serb Hall cheered enthusiastically for Sen. Ted Cruz, who was introduced by Gov. Scott Walker and talk radio host Vicki McKenna.
The contrasting receptions illustrated why the Texas senator has surged past the real estate mogul and reality TV celebrity in the latest polls, especially in southeastern Wisconsin.
The Reagan comparison to Carter is pure nonsense. The demographics have changed. Reagan may lose California today and never forget it was Carter’s failed rescue attempt that went up in flames and with that his polls collapsed
Trumps wins in a very fractured primary and collapses when the field winnows down.
Exactly. That was a great movie and Col. Nicholson, while admirable in so many ways, was so obsessed with his success with the bridge, forgot the big picture until it was almost too late.
This odd candidate who has strangely captured so many hearts here is ruining things for us.
He cannot beat Hillary.
If you can’t address the substance of the article you show exactly why Trump is getting smashed in the polls.
They are not worried about it at all.
They are dancing at the thought of it.
Hillary has her base of idiots who will vote for her even if she is in a prison cell. You know that.
She will also get the gimme voters who want the government to take care of them.
Our candidate has to be well liked enough to get Republicans to vote for him.
Trump is not well liked.
Actually, Colonel Nicholson fell on the plunger
The saddest part of all this is that Trumpkins act like the three proverbial monkeys and cannot accept reality even when it stares them down the barrel of an electoral gun.
That statement hurt him a lot.
His trumpers were actually defending it, but no one else in the world thought it was an okay thing to say.
He walked it back the next day, but the damage was done.
It revealed his shallow mindset. He doesn’t have core principles to rely on so he says the first thing that comes into his mind. I think he was trying to show just how anti-abortion he is now after embracing abortion for so many years.
But he wasn’t smart enough to pull it off.
You couldn’t have put it better. Thanks for explaining the analogy to the Trumpkins.
Yeah, it’s worth picking up again.
I just saw it a couple of months ago from TCM.
He’s the last nationalist standing. It’s all I need from him and all I expect. No one else offers even that.
This is one of the dumbest questions asked here on FR every single day. Quick answer, different populations are being surveyed, in the one that COUNTS (General electorate) Trump loses to Hillary, whereas Cruz is about even. Another way to explain it, in the Primaries, its Republicans being asked, but Republicans only amount to 1/3 of the electorate. There, perhaps this will be the last time this has to be explained.
And like you, I too was a former Cruzer. Also like you, I'll support the nominee against Hellary.
Utah is very progressive. They support Romney and Cruz can’t get anymore liberal then those two.
We lost our chance for a conservative president in 2012 when Santorum lost the primary to Romney.
Totally agree. And now Trump is seen by his supporters as the second coming. When in reality he's nothing more than a band-aid placed over an infected wound. If that.
Well, he is the only one that will close to 1237, so if he doesn’t make it say hello to Republican Nominee Paul Ryan and goodbye to the Office of the Presidency.
