This is the media’s do-or-die moment. We’ve all seen jiggered polls in the past though not so much in this race. But it’s do-or-die time for the establishment, they have to get Cruz in this race or they’re done.

On a personal note, I foolishly believed that once Cruz was outed as establishment he’d lose support. I didn’t factor in all those establishment votes when candidates like Bush and Graham were in the race. Some people definitely want more of the same.

John Kasich is irrelevant in this computation.

Much of The Donald’s advantage lies in the obvious attraction he is to the “uncommitted middle”, which is about the same demographic that the Republican has been trying to attract for , lo, these many years. And now that The Donald IS attracting this demographic, the Republicans want him OUT of the race?

Ted Cruz is damaged, no dispute in that, and likely, in a general election, may fare little better than Romney or McCain, both overall much worse candidates than Cruz. Cruz simply does not have the star quality that radiates from every pore of The Donald, and Cruz, otherwise, would have had a much more solid standing all across the Republican spectrum than he now has.

But we are not here to deal in “what-ifs”. This is the here and now, and The Donald figures very large in the equation. Many of those in the “uncommitted middle” do not see The Donald as a Republican, but unfortunately, neither does a wide swath of Republicans, and they make the mistake of backing the party, and not the man.

Either these reluctant party-first types swallow a little of their self-induced “pride” attitudes, and vote the man, or they do not vote at all, and that would be a pity, as the demographics of the final vote would be shifted accordingly.

of the establishment gets their way and cruz helps them which he is then I can’t wait to see all those on here who helped the establishment only to see their guy get stabbed in the back.
Well you know what. They get no sympathy form me, they worked for the establishment by voting for their guy, they get what they deserve.

1237 suddenly looking pretty far away for Donny Boy.

I keep warning the Trumpsters that Cruz is likely to gain delegates in the 2nd and subsequent ballots. This poll certainly supports that view. It could change but right now I think that is the reality.

OTOH, I have speculated about Trump's at least potential opportunity to gain a 1st ballot victory by wheeling and dealing with Kasich and Rubio. I've also warned that the GOPe will do everything they can to kill that possibility.

And, lastly, I believe that you have to be nominated to get selected as the nominee. Right now only Trump and Cruz seem to be meeting the qualifications for nomination. So look to see at least an attempt to change those requirements to enable Kasich and perhaps you, me, Paul Ryan and Romney to qualify.

Interesting times, these.

Is it just me or does it seem that only polls that are a little more favorable to Trump end up in Breaking News?

You can't even click on a link and read it?

It's clearly stated that Cruz clobbered Trump in a two man head to head matchup.

My numbers are not baking soda.... That there is a different poll.

This is Cruz vs Trump

The link your posting is Trump vs Cruz vs Kasich filtered for republicans only..

In that poll with the filters off you get:
Trump: 35%
Cruz: 25.4%
Kasich: 16.6%

When you scroll over the chart, the numbers change according to the date. These numbers are the latest, with Cruz pulling ahead.

That’s just silly. Cruz didn’t start to compete until all the others had been whittled away.

In other words, he bravely stood up for his convictions by hiding behind Bush, Rubio, and Trump at various points. Just like he hides behind iCarly at press conferences.

If Trump hadn’t been in the race, Cruz would have been beaten by the likes of JEB or Rubio.

The March 29th poll has Cruz leading. The April 1st poll has Trump in the lead. It is a rolling pool......
