The candidate has called Republican delegate rules "unfair"
Its no secret that Donald Trump loves a good lawsuit. Over the years, hes sued former business partners, a journalist, and at least one little old ladyand on Sunday he promised to bring that litigious spirit to the 2016 presidential race.
Facing an organized effort by rival candidates to game state selection rules and undermine his delegate haul, the Republican front-runner is threatening to sue for votes ahead of a potentially contested convention, a move that could foreshadow a new phase in the GOPs ugly primary fight. Just to show you how unfair Republican primary politics can be, I won the State of Louisiana and get less delegates than [Texas Sen. Ted] CruzLawsuit coming, Trump tweeted on Sunday.
With the GOP race potentially heading to a showdown in Cleveland in which no candidate holds a clear majority of delegates at the convention, every remaining state contest to accumulate committed supporters could face similar scrutiny. With the stakes so high, it seemed such lawsuit threats would abound.
But less than 24 hours after Trumps tweeted threat, his campaign backed down. Barry Bennett, a Trump senior adviser focused on his delegate operation, said Monday that Trumps lawsuit was not in fact meant for a court of law, but for the Republican National Committees committee on contestswhich under GOP rules hears complaints over the allocation and selection of delegates.
Its clear why. Election lawyers and party operatives said challenges to the arcane state-by-state delegate selection rules being used to outfox Trump would face an unwelcome reception in court.

Hot air cools quickly.
Backed down maybe because they determined it is not necessary. If Trump wins Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, it is essentially over.
Are you trying to tell me Donald J. Trump threatened a lawsuit and then did not follow through?!?!
I find that very hard to believe.
They are filling with the RNC.
Trump is a legal midget compared to Cruz who argues before the SCOTUS. His money doesn’t matter outside NYC and he can’t buy every court. If he’s elected, we will have 4 years of this moron spouting crap he can’t back up.
That doesn’t mean the rules aren’t being broken. Rubio supposedly ‘suspended’ his campaign and did not terminate it. That means his delegates are NOT free.
That will get contested.
How many Trump hit pieces have you posted this morning? I can’t keep up with them all.
I’m curious. How many you have to post to get paid for today?
Very hard to always be suing someone while at the same time claim you get along with everyone!
All Butterfly no bee sting.
Maybe Newt helped Trump change his mind:
All bombast and no beef.
It depends on state rules. Some states make delegates free agents if their candidate even ‘suspends’ his campaign.
I believe the suspend vs. quit is about fund raising and campaign cash.
What a pussy!
Why is Trump threatening a lawsuit, and then not following through - news ?
I would call that not newsworthy, and just another day in the life of Trump.
Same ol, same ol.
Just imagine a Trump presidency, with the full force of the Department of Justice and the Internal Revenue Service. Not a pleasant thought to consider.
RE: Why is Trump threatening a lawsuit, and then not following through - news ?
He is using it has a so called “Opening Gambit”, much the same way when he said that the 45% tariffs on China is a threat he will dangle if they don’t behave.
I guess they decided no need to shine the spotlight on their ineptness at handling the little details of a presidential campaign.
Chuckles, chuckles, chuc... but I digress...
Do you honestly think that Trump would act as a lawyer in this litigation? He would hire the best attorneys, equal to or better than Rafael Cruz. A wise businessman knows that if you don’t have the expertise to do a certain thing, you get the talent and take care of the issue...
Chuckles, chuckles, chu... Ah, again I digress...
...an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing.
