I was in and out of the voting booth in 5 minutes at 6:30 PM in Maricopa, AZ. There was obviously enough info about independents not being able to vote that my apolitical millennial daughter got the news and switched her registration so she could vote this year. Unfortunately, she registered as a Democrat so she could vote for “Bernie,” but hey, she’s young and stupid. My point is the info was out there and if you didn’t hear about it, you’re really too brain dead to vote.
I know they reduced the polling places by about 70% but based on the historical participation rate, it made sense. Plus they’re always moaning about how hard it is to get poll workers, so reducing the number of polling places made sense in that regard as well. I really hope Helen Purcell isn’t drummed out of office over this. That would truly mean the inmates are running the asylum.
We were at our polling place at 3:30 p.m. The line went around a full block. So we went to an alternate polling place. It was the same thing there at around 4:00 p.m.
I was ready to try again at 6:30 p.m., but I had been watching the news, and it was still a no-go at that time. We went to the Mesa polling place and the Gilbert polling place.
Be happy your daughter voted! Wrong party, but she is young. That does go away. LOL!
Where I was raised in Southern California, I was the head of my polling place a few times. I tried to do that here, but the difference is that in Arizona you have to stay in your polling place the whole voting day; whereas in Southern California, you could leave for a break from it all.
I do believe in my precinct during the Loretta Sanchez time, there was cheating going on because you could leave. It happened when I took a break. It is far easier here to vote, and far more difficult to cheat.
Those poll workers should be given some kind of medal here for this past vote. It is tough!
