WASHINGTON A Donald Trump supporter aired unsubstantiated rumors of Ted Cruz infidelity on CNN on Friday. Within an hour, Cruz accused Trump of using henchmen to peddle tabloid garbage and complete and utter lies.
By mid-afternoon, Trump took to social media to deny his involvement in the story.
Mainstream news outlets had steered clear of the rumors and a report in the tabloid National Enquirer before the Trump supporter appearing live with Amanda Carpenter, a CNN commentator who had worked as Cruzs communications director demanded Carpenter address the allegation that she had an affair with the senator.
It is categorically false. You should be ashamed for spreading this kind of smut, Carpenter shot back, visibly angry, denouncing the tabloid trash.
Twitter and other social media have erupted since the Enquirer posted its story Thursday afternoon, with the hashtag #Cruzsexscandal trending. Cruz detractors mounted an impromptu crowdsourcing effort online to identify the five women whose photos the Enquirer published with black bars across their eyes.
Cruz was campaigning in Wisconsin as Fridays CNN segment was airing onstage live at a town hall in Oshkosh. The Enquirer report did not come up in the Q&A. The senator addressed it with reporters afterward.
Cruz also posted a denial on his Facebook page.

Son Of A Preacher Man
By Dusty Springfield
Billy Ray was a preacher’s son
And when his daddy would visit he’d come along
When they gathered around and started talkin’
That’s when Billy would take me walkin’
Out through the back yard we’d go walkin’
Then he’d look into my eyes
Lord knows, to my surprise
The only one who could ever reach me
Was the son of a preacher man
The only boy who could ever teach me
Was the son of a preacher man
Yes he was, he was, ooh, yes he was
Bein’ good isn’t always easy
No matter how hard I try
When he started sweet-talkin’ to me
He’d come’n tell me “Everything is all right”
He’d kiss and tell me “Everything is all right”
Can I get away again tonight?
The only one who could ever reach me
Was the son of a preacher man
The only boy who could ever teach me
Was the son of a preacher man
Yes he was, he was, ooh, yes he was (yes he was)
How well I remember
The look that was in his eyes
Stealin’ kisses from me on the sly
Takin’ time to make time
Tellin’ me that he’s all mine
Learnin’ from each other’s knowin’
Lookin’ to see how much we’ve grown and
The only one who could ever reach me
Was the son of a preacher man
The only boy who could ever teach me
Was the son of a preacher man
Yes he was, he was, oh yes he was
(The only one who could ever reach me)
He was the sweet-talkin’ son of a preacher man
(The only boy who could ever teach me)
Was the son of a preacher man
(The only one who could ever reach me)
Was the sweet-talkin’ son of a preacher man

How does Trump proceed while campaigning in Wisconsin next week? Does he ignore this? Mention it briefly and move on? Should be interesting. Trump, like a lot of people, has been off the radar the last few days.
Where’s the call for retraction of I’ll sue?
Carpenter admitted in that same segment on CNN that she had already lawyered up prior to going on CNN that night. The Canadian Cruz Line, well, he has been lawyered up with the same law firm that went to bat for Barry Soetoro with his eligibility problem since the Cruz Liner got into the 2016 presidential race last year.
Nothing to hide, then why lawyer up?
Well she denied all the rumors, and so far there is no proof of anything other than them being chummy while working together. I’m chummy with almost all the folks I work with and I’d hate to hear what kind of rumors might fly if I ever ran for prez.
“Nothing to hide, then why lawyer up”
Ahead of time at that.
First you question why he’s not suing, which would take lawyers.
Then you accuse him of having something to hide since has has lawyers.
You could say the same thing about Trump and his questionable "university". People often lawyer up when confronted with libel, real or perceived.
if this all comes unraveled theres going to be alot of people with egg on their face
LOL...nothing he does will please them.
True.
Isn’t Hillary behind this whole thing? Just like the fake Sanders protesters at the Trump campaign rallies, she managed to malign Sanders, as well as Trump.
And with this Trump/Cruz feud regarding their wives, Hillary makes both Trump and Cruz look bad in the eyes of women.
Old tried and true tactic.
I don’t know, but I always thought that s*x was something folks tended to do in the evening, not first thing when they wake up. Perhaps she just meant that he came to work in a particularly good mood. I’m sure when you’re on the election trail you gotta wake up early. Of course time will tell what’s true and what’s not.
Ted’s argument is not with Trump. Ted’s argument is with the National Enquirer. Denying any affairs took place is a good first step, however he needs to specify that not only did he never have any affairs, he does not have, nor has he ever had a mistress or mistresses and that he has unequivocally been faithful to his wife Heidi.
And MOST important: Ted needs to demand, not ask but *demand* an immediate apology and retraction from the National Enquirer OR: he will instruct his legal team to begin legal proceedings. The longer he hesitates to make that demand, the more damage that is going to be inflicted. He’s got to do it now, preferably in time for the Sunday talk shows today.
I don’t know. But if Hillary WAS behind this, then she didn’t have much to do besides push the story. After that, the Trump supporters would do her work for her.
Absolutely love the dog picture. Awesome.
