When the Nazis came to power, nobody really paid much attention to their anti-semitism, because at the time it was the norm for the entire continent.
Britain is not an anti-Semitic nation and never has been, despite the occasional incident (but then don’t we all have them......Leo Frank anyone?.).
The UK is the 6th LEAST anti-Semitic nation on earth. Fact. 2014 Anti Defamation League Global Study. It is one place ABOVE the United States. The UK, far from being anti-Semitic, is one of the friendliest nations to Jews and historically has been.
Anti-Semitism in modern times in the UK has been pushed to the fringes of British society. Either the pro-Hitlerite upper class of the 1930s, or the knuckle dragging fascists and racists, be it Oswald Mosley in the 1930s with his Union of British Fascists or the BNP today, whose last leader was a Holocaust denier. The British people en masse 80 years ago and now reject anti-Semitism and those who peddle it.
Whilst there have been some historical injustices against Jews, these have been few and far between and its is very important to look at these in the larger history. Britain (except for 1290 in England) has been free of the pogroms that murdered many a Jew in Europe. Scotland, Wales and NI have no history of anti-Semitism, and England’s history of it is frankly minimal.
The Jewish population of Great Britain lives happily without any major anti-semitism. In fact, Judaism is openly celebrated as a long standing and vibrant part of British culture. British TV ran Jewish documentaries across all five of its network channels last year. Did America?.
British Jewish entertainers, writers, politicians and businesspeople openly celebrate their Jewishness. The London East End Jew, with his sharp wit and mouth is as well loved and known a British cultural icon as the Glaswegian or the Cockney.
The current British Prime Minister is part Jewish. As was the last deputy PM. As was the last leader of the opposition party(Labour). So you have/had Jewish-descended people in the three most important political positions in the UK.
The British people. are no more antisemitic than their American cousins. In fact as we see, slightly less. The UK is the nation that rejected the naked antisemitism of the 1930’s Fascists, and continues to reject the antisemitism of the BNP and other fringe neo-nazi parties and groups. The nation that stood alone against Hitler, while America and others stood by. And the nation that liberated Belsen and saved Jewish lives.
To suggest that the British people are antisemitic OR that the jews of Britain are victims of mass cultural or physical antisemitism is a downright and disgusting lie.
