Had one. Even benched and bagged at a mere 100 yards, it was shooting pie-tin sized groups, at best. Got rid of it.
The article says that the ones after 2005 are much better,, but I don’t have the budget to find out right now.
I had the opposite experience with one a friend let me try out. Quarter sized groups at 100yds. Liked it a lot.
Ditto. I had 2, the 2nd was the Ranch version so I could add a scope. The result was that I could more easily see the crappy accuracy. All pre-2005. Got an AR, and now I’m happy. I do wish that Ruger had done some honor to Garand’s action by having a decent barrel many years earlier, but that’s life.
When Bill Ruger came out in favor of mag limit, that poisoned me against the company. Lots of other ones out there.
Same here. My AR is a tack driver. Mini 14s were known for being sloppy shooters. Plus you cant get stuff like a firing pin or anything. All repairs have to be sent back to Ruger. AR type you can buy everything from mags to springs online and cheap.
Also, The A team used them all the time and never hit anything but gas tanks and tires. What good is that

Couldn’t it be tuned at all?
I had one, and it shot pie plate sized patterns. More accurate than a handgun is all I can say about the Mini.
A shame, as I really like the Garand, and shoot one often. Accuracy on my 74 year old Garand is way better than any Mini I have shot (tried several more after I dumped the one I had).
For less money, the AR makes more sense. More accurate, every part can be purchased, and more accurate. Plus, it is scary looking to liberals.
Have to agree. Mr. GG2 had a mini 14. No accuracy. He finally got sick of it and dumped it. With all the good tactical rifles out there I can’t see pushing the Mini 14.
All older Mini-14’s need the bushing correctly fitted by a gunsmith.
My dad has one and I have shot that and an AR side by side many times. I come away each time liking my ARs more.
