Why Is Ted Cruz Getting a Total Pass For Attack on Donald Trump’s Wife?
Mediaite ^ | 03/25/16 | Tommy Christopher

I get that the media has gotten the memo that Donald Trump is the greatest threat to civilization since NBC’s “The Slap,” but the controversy surrounding the Trump v Ted Cruz wife-dissing battle has revealed a stunning bit of tunnel vision, particularly among liberals. While everyone piles on Trump for retweeting an unflattering photo comparison of Heidi Cruz and Melania Trump, they’re giving Cruz and his SuperPAC a complete pass for what amounts to a political sexual assault on Melania Trump. Both attacks were ugly; I would submit that the explicitly sexual nature of the attack on Mrs. Trump is worse, but for the sake of argument, let’s call them even.

Consider this introduction to the flap by Chris Hayes on Thursday night’s All In, in which he takes great pains to note that the PAC that attacked Melania Trump has “no direct connection” to Ted Cruz, then delights in Cruz’s (admittedly awesome) refusal to say he won’t support Trump if he’s the nominee:

God bless Hallie Jackson for asking that followup, but another great question would have been why didn’t Ted Cruz immediately denounce the anti-Melania ad and demand that it be taken down? As for Hayes, he and the rest of the media are giving Cruz a benefit of the doubt that he has not earned. Sure, he’s not supposed to coordinate with SuperPACs, but this is the same guy who swore his campaign had nothing to do with spreading the rumor that Ben Carson had dropped out in Iowa, only to have voicemails to the contrary surface almost immediately. At a bare minimum, Cruz bears responsibility for not immediately coming out against the ad.

I guess you missed the Vote for Ted Cruz on the bottom of the ad.

Exactly. All this "Cruz had nothing to do with the attack ad stuff" is incredibly naive. If you believe that, then I've got some dehydrated water to sell ya. ;)

Even though it may technically be against the law, apparently candidates speak with their SuperPACs all the time. And breaking the speed limit is against the law too, but how often does that stop people? :)

Besides, if Cruz read had a problem with the ad, he would've condemned it immediately. Since he did not, it's not that hard to read between the lines.

Why is Trump responsible for the Enquirer article? Cruz wasn’t responsible for the super pac that supports him putting out the ad with Trumps wife. Even if the magazinr supports Trump, they can put out whatevwr stories they want. It doesn’t mean Trump is secretly involved in any way. Just like they said about Cruz with his PAC.

Then why is Cruz’s spokesperson on Fox discussing the same talking points as was in the Ad 2 weeks before the ad ran in Utah.

Perhaps this is where that Pac got the idea?

Trump has exposed Cruz for what he is. You ought to be grateful for that.

This is the first time Ted has ever played with a boomerang. He doesn’t know that is comes back and, if you aren’t watching, can smack you upside your head.

Oops, corrected: Besides, if Cruz really had a problem with the ad, he would've condemned it immediately. Since he did not, it's not that hard to read between the lines.

“You mean like cheating on your wife and kids, not once, not twice, but 5 times?”

I thought Trump had boasted of many conquests outside of marriage. Are you sure it was just five?

He gets a pass for the same reason the MSM went almost 24 hours without mentioning the National Enquirer story: The MSM narrative must be focused on destroying Trump.

Ted Cruz said he “obviously” had nothing to do with the Melania ad. So that’s what they report.

Now that Ted Cruz has said Donald Trump planted the National Enquirer story, the MSM is allowed to report that Donald Trump planted the story.

And we can just get back to how “spill the beans” is a “threatening Tweet” and Donald Trump is terrible because it’s all his fault leftist BLM rent-a-mobs start riots at his campaign events.

See how this works?

And you know this how? Are we now going to just accept accusations against people as true?

Cruz knew it was about to hit the stands and hit out at Melania to muddy the water and make the enquirer look like a retaliation.

If IF IF IF ... the NE story is true ... then what you have said is true ... and Cruz would have demonstrated to us all that he is just another lying politician who deserves our scorn.

Proves the talking points came from inside the Cruz camp. Not at arms-length.

Cut ...paste, cut ...paste, cut ...paste

Man, your arms gotta be gettin' tired!

Because Cruz didn’t send it and doesn’t control what the PAC does.

It kinda seem like "thought" is not something that you are any good at. I recommend you stick with the talking points to avoid making a further fool out of yourself.

Cruz called Trump’s wife a slut.

When did this happen? Do you have a link to the video?

If IF IF IF ... the NE story is true ...

If were a total fabrication, don't you think Mr. Big Lawyer Cruz would be launching a lawsuit for libel for millions of dollars? If Cruz says nothing about a lawsuit (and he hasn't so far), then we can be sure the story is true.

Liz Mair supports Cruz now that Fiorina is on board. People claim Cruz knew because his consultant Jeff Roe helped find the picture.
