When the Ford Motor Co. decided to move jobs south to Mexico so that it could pay its workers less, billionaire businessman Donald Trump was furious. He made trade inequalities and Ford’s betrayal of American workers a central issue of his campaign.

And, without his even being in the Oval Office, it worked.

In an interview with CNBC, Ford CEO Mark Fields said that the automaker would be “here to stay.” He also said he had outlined his company’s plans in a letter to Trump.

Credit where credit is due.

That said, I'm not sure that a government official chastising a corporation is the way I'd like to see it handled.

That's not the federal government's job.

Government's job is to make sure that the environment and financial conditions exist that make a company realize it's in their best interest to stay in the U.S. and employ U.S. workers.

So you think it’s good for the President to be making the decisions on how to run a company like Ford?

I think that as a country, we shouldn't make it advantageous for our corporations to move across borders at the expense of our workers.

The government facilitates such moves by imposing high corporate tax rates and unfair trade policies. If our trade deals were indeed free, the agreements would be one page, not five thousand.

Well yeah, the President of Ford doesn’t want his company made an issue in a Presidential campaign. And why should he provide specifics, a letter worked fine, gave Donald a “victory” he can trumpet, without having to provide specifics as to how he’s going to impose a 35% tariff on Mexican imports. Executive order? Won’t work. Perhaps he’ll work with Congress, the ability to work with Congress is, interestingly, an issue that doesn’t come up. Rest assured, the Dems will bring it up in the general.

Trump doesn’t put the blame on the companies. He places the blame on government incompetence at the highest levels.

Trump is a true leader...literally. To all who are paying real attention we notice he is not only driving the issues (for both parties!) but also the position...which the others try to move closer to his. He is an amazing man and will make a great President.

The Ford CEO said we are here to stay but no specifics regarding US jobs.

Actually it said they were to fhire an additional 8,500 workers.

Donald Trump isn't a government official, though I disagree, government officials are free to chastise corporations. Verbally. Nothing wrong with naming companies moving production overseas.

Let not your heart be troubled...polls this far out are meaningless.

I predicted last fall that Trump would have to take on the left, the media, and the Repub Party. I also knew that Trump was up to the task.

Ignore the noise.
