WTAE-TV’s Wendy Bell takes down controversial Facebook post, apologizes
Following an escalating firestorm Wednesday over Facebook postings by WTAE-TV anchor Wendy Bell on what critics described as “racist” views following the mass shooting in Wilkinsburg on March 9, she has removed the posts and apologized.
“I have removed a post that I initially placed here on Monday,” she wrote late Wednesday on her official WTAE Wendy Bell Facebook page. “I sincerely apologize for that post about the Wilkinsburg mass shooting and the restaurant employee whom my husband and I encountered. I now understand that some of the words I chose were insensitive and could be viewed as racist. I regret offending anyone. I'm truly sorry.”
Ms. Bell’s postings had spawned a campaign titled “Demand WTAE Hold Wendy Bell Accountable,” in response to what some perceived as Ms. Bell's racially insensitive comments.
In the wake of the mass shooting the veteran news anchor posted her observation. She noted, in part, “You needn't be a criminal profiler to draw a mental sketch of the killers who broke so many hearts two weeks ago Wednesday.... They are young black men, likely teens or in their early 20s. They have multiple siblings from multiple fathers and their mothers work multiple jobs.”
Police have yet to announce arrests.

No, because her racist post made it happen. If it weren't for her racism, the killers would be white, middle class males. Instead, she filled the universe with racist energy and will have made the killers black ghettos dwellers (if that's who committed the crime).

She is a native of Southern California and went to high-school with the Menendez Brothers. Lyle Menendez asked her to the prom. Fortunately she refused.
I had a cousin in graduate school at the University of Pittsburgh who did that.
I’m surprised the realtors haven’t rebranded it “West Shadyside” and tripled the rent.
Wendy Bell is a good egg who did great reporting during the Quecreek Mine crisis.
Her husband is a cardiologist and they are quite well-off. She’s got four kids, I believe, so she should chuck her job in and leave them hanging.
Like the rest of you, I’m sick of the Taboo Speech Police who have ratcheted racism into the realm of ‘white people can’t mention black people’ and ‘identifying obvious and/or likely characteristics of persons committing similar violent acts over and over again is not permitted.’
If they want to pretend the obvious doesn’t exist, that’s their problem. I refuse to allow them to make it ours.
I could go along w/ everything except the mothers working multiple jobs, but I could be wrong.
At one time that would have surprised me. Not any more.
