She went to school with Jackson's daughter and they were friends. Her father was a Democrat precinct captain and part of the Daley machine. It's certainly likely that he supported Jessie Jackson's candidacy, but I don't see that he was a trusted associate of Jackson.

Both families are from South Carolina, reportedly from the same part of the state, so it's certainly possible. It's a common enough name, though, and they don't appear to be close relatives.
