This has been the story of Cruz and most of his campaign since just before Iowa.

Yeah - being called 'low-info' by my own Senator really ticked me off, too.
Cruz is supposed to be a smart man. As such, what could he possibly had to gain by calling people ignorant just because they preferred another candidate? Particularly since these are they very people whose vote he would need should he wind up with the nomination?
It was a stupid and highly insulting tactic. If he hadn't already lost me by that point, he would have lost me then.
