If you’ve lived in a blue state for thirty-odd years and make some move to a red state...you ought to sit down and discuss this move and the impact upon your life. If you can’t handle the lifestyle, the culture, or the politics in the new state...then why move?
About 20 years ago, the Army moved their Aviation Command from St. Louis to Huntsville, AL. Shortly there after, a group of democrats tried to raise property taxes and state income taxes. Many of those who had moved to Alabama had been pleasantly surprised at how much house they could afford here since due to the lower property taxes. Many of those who had moved supported the tax increases, after all, they were only paying a fraction of what they had paid in St. Louis. The tax increases were rejected by a five to one majority.
I think you’ll find a similar attitude in most every RED state. We really don’t mind if you move here, just leave your attitude and liberal beliefs behind you.
I live in Florida too. Whenever I hear some notion like we used to have this where I came from I always retort well why did you move here? It is fun watching them stumble through that one.
she'd moved down from Jersey and was complaining about how we didn't have this or that here. I asked her why they moved to this red state.
her reply: we didn't like the taxes
my reply: then don't try to recreate the mess in the blue state you left in this red state.
As a Southerner and former Mississippian, I can tell you that it is fairly common for people to move in and insist on telling you “how things are done up north”. My question is always” “If it was so great, why did you move? We got along great for lo these many years WITHOUT YOU.”
