Well, I agree and think that he'd do well against Clinton. But the bigger picture here is that he's essentially guaranteeing that he won't drop out before the convention. So, assuming that's true, and further assuming that Trump doesn't have the 1,237 he needs beforehand...

If the delegates vote on the first ballot and Trump is still short of the 1,237 he needs, then the delegates pledged to Trump can be released for the 2nd ballot. If those are the rules, isn't it fairly easy to presume that something unique can happen at the convention?

I am "ABC" all the way so for me, there doesn't have to be a sharp contrast in candidates to get me to vote. But I find it fascinating if the system can move the nomination away from Trump without even using "shenanigans".

...on the basis of his broad government experience and electability in a general election...

Ah, the old GOP strategy of planning to win without GOP voters.

Or as Jeb Bush said it, losing the primary to win the general. We all thought he was an idiot for making that statement but look where we are now, every day there's another headline suggesting this approach.

The only question I have is if the party prefers a candidate that can't win a primary with actual GOP voters and their hope every election is to win the general by getting non-GOP voters, why is there a GOP at all?

I can picture “those that be” working overtime to give it to Kasich. Cruz seems to be oblivious that any deals he can make will be broken because they fear him almost as much as they fear Trump. He’s helping to throw the General by aiding and abetting those who want to do the deal behind our backs - they will betray him as quickly as they betray the People. They’d rather Hillary get it if the only choices on our side are Trump or Cruz.

Ya’ll. Pray that Hillary does not snatch the Presidency.
Pray that the Lord gives us the help that we need from the
Republican conservative candidate & saves us from the
destruction that this country probably richly deserves.
MARANATHA!

Clinton would kill him in the election.

He would be the typical nice guy RINO while Clinton would be going for the jugular.
