“You have to understand… how he gonna get his money to have clothes to go to school? You have to look at it from his point-of-view.”

How? He shows up at a job interview dressed appropriately, fills out the application legibly and completely, interviews respectfully and coherently. He'll stand out so far from other applicants (regardless of color or ethnicity) that he won't have to go through too many sessions before he is hired. That's how.

My teenage son got his first job recently bussing tables. Before he started I was giving him pep talks and dos and don’ts. After his first night of work on Wednesday, I showed him this video from the movie Runaway Train (some adult language).

Sometimes you got suck things in, and do what you have to do. You are gonna have mgrs, fellow employees, and customers that are jerks. People who will actively try to make your job harder...no matter how high you go, no matter where you go.
