Latest comment:

"I think we need a little 'muscle' in the Washington Post editorial board to clean out the idiots who green-lighted giving this moron a platform."

Stuff like this gives me hope.

I'm not there yet, but here's one further down the line from several good ones that I liked:

Let's recap. No direct apology. No nuanced shades of contrition. Not even a begrudging acknowledgement that students on a campus have the right to both act as citizen journalists and disagree.

What a win for smartphone cameras. Imagine how many thousands of Melissa Click's were never recorded and were able to walk around in the reverie of their power-tripping, shrill bluster with complete impunity.

Likewise! Here’s a comment that puts it especially well:
___________________________________________________________________________________________
What a goofball you are...

“I do not understand the widespread impulse to shame those whose best intentions unfortunately result in imperfect actions.”

Best intentions? You mean those things that are used for road materials to hell. It’s always intentions that you wish to be judged by rather than results. In this case your intentions were to protest until university administrators were terminated. Instead you got canned. Hard cheese.

And face it...your problem isn’t a lack of shame.

“Reaction to the footage containing my errors has resulted in...the loss of my job.”

No, you lost your job because you violated another person’s civil rights. Plus, you are a venal and nasty person with a foul mouth and a raging temper.

“I never used my authority as a professor in the actions I took...”

As a professor, your authority is implied to exist in any situation that involves students. Students defy a professor at their academic peril. It is not dissimilar to workplace intimidation.

“I am also working to come to terms with how a few captured moments of imperfection could eclipse 12 years of excellence.”

You seem to have an odd take on excellence. It is also very reasonable to expect that there is a substantial volume of “imperfection” with you that has never been captured on video.

“I don’t want to live in a world where citizens are too afraid of public scorn to take a chance.”

And no one wants to attend a school where free speech is held hostage by thugs (such as yourself) who use threat of physical violence against those with opposing views. Funny world.

“...what value do our rights as citizens have in a culture increasingly ruled by snap judgments and by regulations that are easily rewritten to suit changing political interests?”

This last quote, where you whine about rights of citizens is particularly ironic. You really have a serious problem with self-awareness.

Hope you enjoy life outside academia. Hope the thousands more like you also get the chance.
