A man was sentenced Thursday to more than five years in prison for his role in a firearms purchasing conspiracy that also involved his wife.
The U.S. Attorneys Office in Minnesota says Fausi Ibrahim Mohamed, 22, was sentenced to 64 months in federal prison for conspiracy and providing false statements in the acquisition of firearms. His wife, 23-year-old Sabrina Aweys Ikar, was sentenced to three years of probation for her role in the crimes.
According to court documents, Ikar purchased six firearms from a licensed Robbinsdale gun shop at the urging of her husband. In each of the five transactions, prosecutors say she knowingly lied on ATF forms, stating that the guns were for her own use, though they were actually intended for her husband, Mohamed.
The guns later surfaced in connection to various crimes linked to Mohamed, including a nonfatal shooting in Minneapolis.
The case was a result of an ATF investigation, prosecutors added.
WCCO spent so much effort in trying to hide the fact this was a muslim terrorist, that they couldn't do even simple math.
However, they are the only local news outlet reporting on this story.
Does Straw Purchase mean knowingly buying hot or stolen guns?
Straw Purchase.
Buying a gun (and filling out the forms for yourself) when gun is intended for another person.
..Buying a gun (and filling out the forms for yourself) when gun is intended for another person...
In this case, fellow terrorists.
Thanks, Bob!
Oh, I see. Thanks. Now I understand.
Straw purchase = procuring firearms for a prohibited person (e.g. felon, non resident alien, someone who’s been previously denied, etc.).
What is the correct way to buy a gun and give it as a gift to a family member? spouse? son/daughter? etc.
From the article...
“According to court documents, Ikar purchased six firearms from a licensed Robbinsdale gun shop at the urging of her husband. In each of the five transactions, prosecutors say she knowingly lied on ATF forms, stating that the guns were for her own use, though they were actually intended for her husband, Mohamed.”
That is what constitutes a straw buy.
Depends on the state, and source of the gun, and your conscience.
Technically, you probably can’t do it as a surprise present. Maybe a card with a note, and you both finish the deal at your local FFL dealer.
Not read sure, but you just don’t put one in a Christmas Stocking.
But for some reason the Fast-and-Furious operators are still uncharged and unarrested, let alone convicted and incarcerated.
Take them to the gun shop, have them fill out the paperwork. When they come back clean on the NICS check, get out your wallet and sing...”Happy Birthday To You...”
Yep, it’s them vs. us.
what terrorist activity was committed?
Let’s say Illinois for instance.
Illinois is a special case.
The recipient of the gift will need a FOID (Firearms Owner ID) card before any transaction can occur.
After obtaining that, you really should pay for the firearm at the dealer, with the recipient in attendance.
“The guns later surfaced in connection to various crimes linked to Mohamed, including a nonfatal shooting in Minneapolis”
knowingly buying (legal guns) but not for themselves, with intent to give, or sell the weapon to someone not allowed to have them.
I’m in Calif. Pretty bad here.
I can’t give info for Illinois. You might ask at a gun shop, if you can find one.
What’s their citizenship status?
