We choose the nominee
Squawk Box ^ | 3-16-2016 | Matthew J. Belvedere

Political parties, not voters, choose their presidential nominees, a Republican convention rules member told CNBC, a day after GOP front-runner Donald Trump rolled up more big primary victories.

"The media has created the perception that the voters choose the nomination. That's the conflict here," Curly Haugland, an unbound GOP delegate from North Dakota, told CNBC's "Squawk Box" on Wednesday. He even questioned why primaries and caucuses are held.

You got it partly right.

I would like to clarify a point. There are 2 states and 3 districts that can vote UNBOUND. That means that in the FIRST vote, they can vote however they want.

The rest of the delegates are BOUND for the FIRST vote ONLY!, IF a clear winner (50% +1) is not determined after the first vote, the BOUND delegates are then free to vote any way they want, regardless of the voters they represent.

Curly may have spoken incorrectly (Politically), but he was correct, and just may have let the Genie out of the bottle.

Be aware, and prepare to act.

Excellent!

Trump has has hijacked the GOP Express, fueled it for free using the medias credit card, and after he crosses the finish line he will light it on fire and spit on the ashes.

This guy, idiotic as he may sound, is speaking for all of the GOP establishment. And these people will stop at nothing to keep Donald Trump from being the nominee.

If Trump has Five hundred delegates above Cruz, and they deny him the nomination, Burn Down the House, maybe literally.

And the electoral college, along with backing of the illegal vote, will appoint Hillary as president. I think the fix has been in for nearly 8 years now.

I’m not sure we are having a primary in ND. If we don’t that might be why ND’s delegates are unbound.

2/3 of the nation, Dem and GOP, are sick and tired of the UniParty, the Establishment, the Same-old-same-old, and entrenched politicians... and the odds are very good that we will now elect a women who has been atop the DC world for 24 years, and will likely be there for Year 28 and maybe 32 after this election.

Kasich must get EVERY delegate remaining to win the nomination (1079 left, he has 142, he needs 1237... ie, he cannot reasonably win), and his only purpose is now to prevent anyone from getting 1237., as the GOP wants, A one-on-one between Cruz and Trump is Cruz's only hope. A brokered convention is the GOP's only hop to name one of their faithful, who will get decimated by Hillary... which they do not mind, because The Machine will still be in place. Trump polls even with Hillary, but Trump's polls are constantly 6-10 points higher than the final vote percentage spreads, so the only real hope is Cruz catching up in a one-on-one contest... but at this point, it might even be too late. In the end, Hillary's Establishment SuperDelegates will get her the Dem nomination, and the GOP will do everything it can to prevent Trump and Cruz from taking her on... but even if it is Trump, she likely wins. Cruz polls 8 points ahead of Hillary, and Cruz beats his polls in more than half of the state contests, winning 7 of the first 19 states when he was only supposed to win one. He is actually the best chance to beat The Hildebeast, but the knee-jerk emotional-reaction Trump folks simply cannot allow that idea to enter into their minds, and the GOPe will do whatever it takes to prevent him as well.

2/3 of the nation wants change, and we will get life-long DC feature, Hillary. THAT is how entrenched The UniParty Machine is today.

I have no doubt the bastards will change the rules to match what they want the outcome to be. Simple as that!

When and if they screw Trump over, Hitlary will become the POTUS, the rest of us will get screwed and another “civil war” will begin. Civil War III will be the end of the Republican party as it should be.

The GOP is a wing of the Dem party. The obect is to get their agenda through without voters interfering. The GOP does not care if the GOP dies. That will make the DNC, their real party stronger, so they win either way.

They will kill the GOP if they kill the nomination picked by the voters and they don’t mind that. A Chi-com one party system would be fine with them.

If Trump has 500 more delegates than Cruz (presuming Kasich doesn’t pick up any more) then he will have over 1237. Here’s the math:

2474 Total available delegates
661 Current Trump
406 Current Cruz
142 Current Kasich
169 Current Rubio
1096 Remaining

255 Trump current lead

So as of today, Trump has 255 more delegates than Cruz. That means out of the remaining delegates, Trump would need 250 more delegates than Cruz to reach “500 more than Cruz”

548 Half of the remaining delegate total

If they were each getting half the remaining we’d add this to their current total, right? But they’re not. To get Trump to “500 more than Cruz at the end”, he needs to get 250 more than Cruz out of what remains. To get there, we can add 125 of that half to Trump and subtract 125 of that half from Cruz.

673 125 more than half remaining delegates
423 125 less than half remaining delegates

Then we add them to the existing totals and get...

1334 Trump total to be 500 delegates ahead of Cruz
829 Cruz total to be 500 delegates behind Trump

So to sum up, if Trump has 500 more delegates than Cruz he’ll win the nomination outright. To be specific, if Trump has anything more than 211 delegates than Cruz, he will win the nomination outright.

For Trump to win outright, he needs to win ~52% of the remaining delegates.

That 2nd to last sentence is unclear. It should say “If Trump wins 211 more delegates than Cruz out of what remains, then he wins the nomination outright.

If that is their claim, then why waste money on primaries? Is it merely to give the illusion to voters that they matter at all?

If the Republican establishment chooses to stomp on the will of the people, they will start the revolution that will tear down the Republican party and the half-baked government that we are inflicted with now. What, pray tell, do they think Trump’s popularity is all about? Don’t they realize that giving us candidates like Dole, McCain, Romney and the like are why they keep losing?

They had better wake up now or the insurrection they will trigger if they hand the election to Hillary Clinton will have them all running for cover. Trump is a sign that they have overstepped their bounds. Stop listening to Rove and people like him, and pay attention to the people for a change.

North Dakota holds a presidential caucus rather than a primary, so candidates will not be listed here until March 2016. Caucus results will be posted here once each party determines its presidential nominee.
