“I think it is clear that the mistake he made was in trying to be hostile.”

No, the mistake he made was attempting to open the borders by throwing his lot in with Chuck Schumer in 2013.

He could have been great for the USA if he had not exposed himself there.

Thank God he revealed himself before it was too late for the USA.

Rubio’s amnesty position is indeed problematic.

Do you know who said this:

“I believe in the idea of amnesty for those who have put down roots and lived here, even though sometime back they may have entered illegally.”

No real American could possibly go along with that??

Who could imagine a “real American” going along with full amnesty for millions of illegals?

“I believe in the idea of amnesty for those who have put down roots and lived here, even though sometime back they may have entered illegally.”

Who could say such a thing and expect to get elected? Ronald Reagan, during 1984 Presidential Debate with Walter Mondale. Two years later Reagan would sign the 1986 Immigration Reform Act, which not only granted amnesty to millions but also offered a pathway to citizenship.

That’s action, not just words. Sometimes even a conservative icon makes mistakes, but memory covers feet of clay with roses.

Hi drop in the polls, really coincide when he went from being inspirational to childishly hostile.

If what you say is true, Kasich should have lost his state...

I am all for Trumps stance on being tough on immigration...it is killing our middle class labor market. And, it is dangerous. But, I am disappointed in how many people seem to have accepted it as okay.

Doesn’t matter. That was a fraction of the illegals we have now. It was a weakness of Reagan’s. And it was long before the country was at the tipping point it is at now.

Further, Rubio’s for amnesty for virtually all illegals here now and on a continuing basis.

We need Rubio as far from public service as he can be pried.

Of course it matters. The 1986 amnesty is the reason we’ve got multitudes of illegals now. Do you really not know that? The promise then was to grant amnesty, then enforce immigration laws and stop the influx. Only the first step happened. All on the watch of the sainted Reagan.

History rarely matters to those doomed to repeat it. You probably actually believe Trump’s blather.

Apologies to Santayana.

Doesn’t matter means a quote from Reagan on amnesty 36 years ago doesn’t make Rubio’s utterly unacceptable position on it any more palatable.

You started out plumping Rubio on this thread, and I was merely pointing out how he is completely unacceptable.

I started out noting how gracious Rubio’s withdrawal speech was last night. And it was.

I also note the comparisons that I see to Rubio and an older Reagan, both of whom failed to win the nomination on their first attempt. They’re both charismatic, both articulate, both wrong on immigration.

Not sure why you want to argue about it.

Seeing Reagan in that little overambitious fraud and twit is very unfortunate.

I agree. Are you a Trump supporter?

Don’t get me wrong, I supported Cruz, who like Rubio has a conservative voting record. Since Trump has nothing but words to offer I assume you do not support him? Actually, I’m fine with Cruz, Rubio, or Trump in that order. Whoever can beat the organized crime candidates, Hillary or Bernard, has my vote.

and Ronald later on admitted publicly he was wrong.

He and we should learn from our mistakes.

“The 1986 amnesty is the reason we’ve got multitudes of illegals now. “

Incorrect. There were less than 2 million that were granted amnesty then.

The reason we have multitudes is that the 1986 amnesty was supposed to include a measurement of border control which has not happened in the 30 years since it occurred.

That is the reason we have multitudes of illegals, NOT due to the 1986 amnesty.

No, it only encouraged more to come over the border knowing that eventually they would also get amnesty. The precedent had been set.

“If what you say is true, Kasich should have lost his state...”

No. Kasich is a governor living in Ohio who has stayed connected to the folks in his state.

Marco once elected moved to DC and threw his constituents under the bus in order to promote his career by being the ‘Amnesty Man’. He chose not to go for reelection as the real possibility existed he would not win reelection.

Good post.
Marco was also a plurality winner in his senate race so hardly a big presence in FL.

You are not reading what I said.

I said it was the failure to seal the border which encouraged more illegals.

If the border was sealed how in the world could more come??

Irrelevant...to the immigration issue. Kasich has promised to give legal status to illegal immigrants within 100 days of being President...

YOu did not read what I wrote. I said Kasich has stayed connected to his homefolks, unlike Marco.

why are you thinking that staying connected to your voters is irrelevant?

are you trying to gin up that amnesty trumps all?(no pun intended).

It does not, as a smart politician will know how to parlay that as he promises other things to constituents.

LOL, good pun. I think would think that if amnesty killed Rubio...wasn’t that your initial statement? If that issue was so tough that it would have also had an affect on Kasich. I think Kasich had a high popularity rating and was liked. And, that is how he beat Trump, albeit you would think it would have been by more than what he did.
