Sanders and Trump are the outsiders that have turned the whole political class on their ear.

This is what has made this particular election cycle more interesting than most. There are *outsiders* knocking on the door of BOTH parties (with a battering ram, no less). The more common scenario is that this could/would happen only to one faction at any given time, and thus could be 'controlled'. Happening in both simultaneously is certainly a first in the modern era, and may well be a first in the history of this country.

We are in unknown waters, at this point, and the 'navigators' apparently are unable to use a sextant, or compass...

In both case, these are essentially third party runs within institutionalized parties.

Sanders is the more blatant opportunist identifying himself as an independent but injecting himself into the dimocratic primary system. It still mystifies me how tyhe DNC allows him to do this.

Trump is just gaining grass roots support within the party rank and file. It still fries the GOPe that their annointed one, bush, never got any traction against any candidate and they are focusing their wrath on the most popular candidate left.
