You are talking about two different issues. First, if there are no law enforcement personnel on site, then you have a right to defend yourself. If there ARE LEOs there, then they are the ones to deal with the thug.
But what has happened at Trump speeches is that he has told his followers to punch protesters, not for violence, but for protesting. That is not the correct response, especially if LEOs are present.
So if there are hundreds of protesters inside the venue and one tears up your sign and punches you in the face, you should take no action in self-defense and wait for a police officer to come to your aid? You are living in a fantasy world.

An absolute lie. These protesters are violent. They are physically attacking people and provoking them. Can you imagine a Trump supporter going to a Sanders event and doing the same thing? No, I can't but if it happened I can assure you that he would be met with violence.
I have had firsthand experience with the Dem rent-a-mobs. They are violent and want confrontation. They attend these events to disrupt them and silence our side. They are not exercising free speech, just the opposite, they are trying to prevent free speech. It goes on everywhere including our colleges. No dissent from the liberal orthodoxy is allowed.
