I want people to understand that tho there were college protesters in the rally and some outside, there was a huge contingent of more serious types...

Some of the Trump supporters at the Rally were acting as if this was a high school rivalry football game—it wasn’t.

Charge them with what? It is a free, public venue. As long as they don’t resort to violence when escorted out or charge the stage, I don’t see how they can be arrested.

Nope. From what I have read, it is actually a private event-—Trump pays for the hall, security, etc. Attendees are his guests, but from what I read, protesters were even getting into Chicago Pavillon without tickets...

Even at school functions, If I go to a UIC basketball game, I don’t have the right to run across the floor shouting disrupting the game...

As to what charges can be brought, I leave that up to Mr. Trump and law enforcement.

70+ and while have health issues believe I can take care of myself in most one on ones. In situations like you addressed, it is not one on one and I am not Jack Reacher either. I've been in the midst of some bad demos in the 60s and I know first hand how they can be beyond dangerous. It does not make a difference how mentally prepared one might be either because things come at you from too many sides. Toss in the potential for weapons (everything from rocks to guns) and the situation cannot be more dire. Glad you survived.
