As a historian, this is absolutely unprecedented. Never in our history have candidates aligned out of a desire to stop another as opposed to getting something for themselves (one thinks of the “corrupt bargain” with Henry Clay and John Quincy Adams, but Clay got the stepping stone to the presidency, the Secretary of State position).

At the very least they should be ashamed of themselves for stifling the will of so many voters-—several million at this point.
